Etching and drypoint, on thin laid paper, fine impression, printed with tone, signed and dated 1859 within the plate, minor defects, scattered foxing, staining etc, 23x15.2cm. Note: In the first state there were two heads in the lower part of the plate. They were removed and Whistler turned the plate upside down.
* James Abbott McNeil Whistler 1834-1903- Seymour, Seated; (K.29) etching and drypoint, printed with tone, on cream laid paper, c.1857-8 good impression, with margins, creasing and surface dirt, image largely unaffected, 14x9.8cm. Note: This was among the earliest etchings that Whistler made whilst staying with the family of his half-sister Deborah and her husband Seymour Haden. Whistler`s nephew Seymour was about seven years old at the time. (unframed)

* James Abbott McNeil Whistler 1834-1903- "The Music Room"; (K.33) etching, printed with tone, c.1858, with margins, good impression with rich contrasts, appears pinned on all four corners, generally good condition. (unframed) Note: Deborah Haden is reading by lamplight, she is joined by her husband Seymour (left) and his medical partner James Reeves Traer. The setting is the music room at the Hadens` house in Sloane Street. Using the press installed at the top of the house, Whistler printed proofs on a wide variety of papers, leaving a varied amount of ink on the surface of the plate. Most of the impressions where printed on laid paper that Whistler preferred (with Japanese paper) for its golden tone and quality.
