David Tindle (British 1932-): Still Life in the Garden, Artist's Proof etching signed and marked 'AP' in pencil, image size 37cm x 50cmNotes: Born in Huddersfield studied at Coventry School of Art (1945-6). From early 1950's he was featured in the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition shows and had regular solo shows at Piccadilly Gallery. By 1957 he had a retrospective at Coventry's Herbert Art Gallery. Made a Royal Academician in 1979. Exhibited extensively. LOCAL INTEREST - A COLLECTION OF CALENDARS ISSUED FOR MANDERS PAINT LTD., WOLVERHAMPTON, various dates 1951 - 1964, some duplicates, each with an etching to the top of buildings of interest. The earlier examples by Alfred Blundell, the later by Alan Carr Linford. Places depicted include St. Margaret's Church, Kings Lynn, Coventry Cathedral, Kelmscott Manor etc. (13)
MARIE STOPES - A LARGE ALBUM OF MAINLY CHRISTMAS CARDS AND OTHER EPHEMERA ADDRESSED TO DR. MARIE STOPES, dating from the 1920s and 1930s to include many from aristocracy and prominent figures of the day - Sir George & Lady Younghusband, Commander & Mrs Clayton, Dukinfield H. Scott (botanist), Sir Arthur & Lady Duckham, Prince & Princess Vladimir Galitzine, Maude Royden (suffragette), also includes a photograph of Stephen Tennant with greeting on the back from Pamela Grey (his mother) dated 1928, a card signed in pencil "From Buffkie to Dear Mumy" presumably Harry Stopes-Roe also known as "Buffkins" - he is referred to in several of the cards, also an etching of Sir Charles Holroyd by Alphonse LegosNote: Marie Stopes founded the first birth control clinic in Britain and was a well known women's rights campaigner. She was acquainted with many literary figures of the day.
