Edmund Blampied (British, 1886-1966) The Stranger, 1920, signed in pencil, drypoint, 26 x 33cm. Literature: Appleby, No.66, signed proof from the only published edition of 100 impressions, on cream laid paper with full margins and deckle edge. In The Stranger Blampied has portrayed the situation with an insight characteristic of his splendid depictions of everyday peasant life in Jersey. Allhusen regarded this plate as "one of the very best of Blampied's drypoints" in his major article The Etchings of Edmund Blampied (PCQ, vol 13, p.78). This drypoint was done upon the back of an old etching plate, the rough surface of which produced the effect of foul-bite in impressions of the finished print
