Marc Chagall "LEPRISE DE JERUSALEM" (THE CAPTURE OF JERUSALEM) etching and drypoint, published by Tériade, Paris, 1956 31 x 25cms; 12 1/4 x 9 7/8in. This is plate 101 from a series of 105 etchings illustrating scenes from the Bible. They were commissioned by Ambroise Vollard and created in two batches: 66 were printed by M. Pontin (1931-39), and 39 were printed by R. Haasen (1952-1956). The edition is limited 275 impressions plus 20 Hors Commerce; there are in addition 100 numbered portfolios, hand-coloured.
