AFTER CHARLES FREDERICK TUNNICLIFFE "Ploughman with horse by haystack", black and white etching, signed in pencil lower right CONDITION REPORTS There are some areas of foxing and discolouration throughout but especially to the edges. There are also some spore like marks particularly to the bottom left hand corner of the image - unknown if this is just trapped under the glass or on the picture itself. Glass is in need of a good clean, frame has knocks and bumps etc conducive with age and use. General wear and tear throughout - see images for further details
AFTER CECIL ALDIN (1870-1935) "A portrait of a Sealyham", black and white etching, limited edition No'd. 43/150, signed in pencil lower right CONDITION REPORTS Has discolouration and a couple of small marks to the image itself. There are thunder bugs trapped beneath the frame and glass is in need of a clean both inside and out. Frame has some chips and knocks to the edges. The word 'handmade' is visible. assuming a watermark coming through the paper on the top border and there is a mark to the milkmaids' coat. Has general wear and tear conducive with age and use. Appears to have some very light surface scratching but unsure if this is within the plate itself and there is a white mark to the bottom right hand corner underneath the sheep. Glass is in need of a good clean both inside and out, frame has knocks nad bumps etc. General wear and tear conducive with age and use - see images for further details
AFTER JEAN LAMOUR (1698-1771) Designs for the gilded ironwork around the Neptune fountain, Place Stanislas, Nancy, France, etching and engraved by Dominique Collin (1725-1781) 38" x 70.5". Inscribed, "Dessein de grandes Grilles posees sur La PLace Royale de Nancy en 1755 par ordre de S.M. Le Roy de Pologne, and Collin Regis Sculptor". Jean Lamour carried out commissions for King Stanislas of Poland- the father-in-law of Louis XV, during the 1750's. King Stanislas (1677-1766) had abdicated as King of Poland but retained the title of King whilst ruling Lorraine as the Duke of Lorraine. The ironwork in Place Stanislas- the former Place Royale at Nancy (1751-1759) is a fine masterpiece and one of his most elevated triumphs of the blacksmith's art. The Cooper-Hewitt museum, New York has another version of this print (ref. 1921-6-210-3); this was exhibited in the 2008 exhibition at the Cooper-Hewitt, 'Rococo: The Continuing Curve, 1730-2008'. Shown in Fig.12, p.98 in the section 'Eighteenth century Nancy: The Good King and the Blacksmith' by Penelope Hunter-Stiebel, pp. 90-101 of the exhibition catalogue.
