This print is set in between the Lighthouse and the Kurhuis in Scheveningen, a make-believe place where I would wander in the night, looking for something, anything away from the restrictions of reality. The Kurhuis and the lighthouse are in fact not that close together, but both buildings are a signifier of place for me, the lighthouse whose light sweeps were visible through the curtains of our childhood bedroom and the Kurhuis, the 'palace' at the boulevard, a place of great magic, opulence, lights and music, a famous landmark."   You must not reproduce, duplicate, copy, sell, resell or exploit any works. Lot 144

Kay Spare The Slipper Thief, 2023 Etching, aquatint and watercolour on paper Signed on Verso 10 x 15cm (3¾ x 5¾ in.) This lot has been curated by AOAP About Kay Spare studied Art and Education at Goldsmiths' College, University of London (1979-83). She taught Art to 11-19 year old children in London's East End for a decade until the birth of her two sons, when she went into partnership with her husband and fellow artist, Richard Spare. Together they set up Wellington Studio in Charlton, London, where he follows his passion for printmaking - she follows hers for painting. Themes are primarily from still life, landscape and the figure, a discipline instilled whilst at college, where her models were dancers from the Laban Centre, which was then based at Goldsmiths'. Recently, Kay has gone on to write and illustrate three children's books which are published on Amazon Kindle: Mrs Timms' Ten Cats, Roll Up Master Prickles and Mooncat. Kay was a prize-winner in the 2007 Dulwich Picture Gallery Portraits of Children competition, judged by Humphrey Ocean RA. Frequent trips to Brittany in northern France have resulted in a new collection of watercolours and oils featuring seascapes and harbours. The western sky over the sea holds particular fascination for Kay; the endlessly changing colours remain an enduring source of inspiration, resulting in rich oil paintings. Education Kay Spare studied Art and Education at Goldsmiths' College, University of London (1979-83). Select Exhibitions/Awards Two solo exhibitions entitled A New Landscape, influenced by holidays in Tuscany and the South of France, where the sheer joy of the colours, textures and the patterns of the landscape, inspired her work. Held at St Martin's Gallery, St Martin in the Fields, Trafalgar Square, London, and Norden Farm Centre for the Arts, Maidenhead, in collaboration with poet John Powls. This followed a previous collaboration in 1998, when her black and white figure drawings were used by John to illustrate his book of poetry, Galerie D'Amour. Kay was a prize-winner in the 2007 Dulwich Picture Gallery Portraits of Children competition, judged by Humphrey Ocean RA. Gallery Representation She has work held in the collection of Trevelyan College, University of Durham, following Colour & Line, a joint show with Richard, and Kings College Hospital, London, where five of her large watercolour and mixed media paintings are on permanent display. Statement about AOAP Submitted Artwork The Slipper Thief was drawn from life from our mischievous dog, Tina, who would delight in enticing you to play by taking things and then running off to hide. My watercolour Snazzy Cat is an example of my delight in the, seemingly elastic, poses cats throw.   You must not reproduce, duplicate, copy, sell, resell or exploit any works. In doing so, you endanger our relationships with artists, and directly jeopardise the charitable work we do.

Lot 265

Louis Blondiau In The Woods, 2023 Oil on paper Signed on Verso 10 x 15cm (3¾ x 5¾ in.)   This lot has been curated by AOAP About I am a landscape painter. I try to create paintings that facilitate emotional intimacy and a reconnection with nature. Looking at forests and oceans can provide us with a sense of connection to something beyond ourselves, a feeling of the vastness of the world and our place within it. I use a scratching technique that mix oil and etching approaches. I avoid using colour in my work. I feel that sometimes colour can be distracting and can impeach the viewer to focus on the movement and forms suggested by the many fine scratches on the canvas. I lived in London from 2003 to 2019 and moved to the Netherlands in 2020. Education Louis Blondiau is mostly a self-taught artist. Yet he studied as a non-enrolled student at the at Brussels Visual Art School La Cambre School (Belgium) in 1989 and later at Art Academy of Braine l'Alleud in 1999 - 2001, Belgium. Select Exhibitions/Awards Louis exhibited in Galleries in London (Hicks Gallery, Cavaliero Finn Gallery, Gagliardy Gallery), in Brussels (Arthus Gallery, Galerie Chapitre 12) and in Amsterdam (Mokum Gallery). In 2014 two paintings of Louis were selected for an exhibition of the Dulwich Picture Gallery (London) and shortlisted for a prize. In 2018, the London County House commissioned two large paintings currently on permanent show. In 2023 one painting was selected for the Royal Art Academy summer show. The paintings of Louis are in several private collections. Gallery Representation Galerie Mokum, Amsterdam; Aperture Contemporary, Brussels Statement about AOAP Submitted Artwork The four small paintings submitted are made with oil on paper (I usually work on larger formats with oil on hard board). They all represent a figure surrounded by nature. The border between nature and the figure are blurred and the nature seems to interplay with the figure. My paintings question the conventional dichotomy of subject and object, inviting viewers to reconsider the interplay between inner realms and the external world, to experience a dissolution of these binaries, and to encourage a reflection on the interconnectedness of all existence.   You must not reproduce, duplicate, copy, sell, resell or exploit any works. In doing so, you endanger our relationships with artists, and directly jeopardise the charitable work we do.

Louis Blondiau Three Figures, 2023 Oil on paper Signed on Verso 10 x 15cm (3¾ x 5¾ in.)   This lot has been curated by AOAP About I am a landscape painter. Lot 438

Alison Jackson Camilla as Keeler Giclée hahnemühle german etching Signed on Verso & Recto 10 x 15cm (3¾ x 5¾ in.) This lot has been curated by AOAP About Alison Jackson, a contemporary, BAFTA and multi award-winning artist, photographer and filmmaker explores the cult of celebrity - an extraordinary phenomenon manufactured by the media, publicity industries and the public figures themselves. To raise questions about this, Alison creates celebrity 'news' that appears real and plausible but isn't. She creates convincingly realistic work portraying the imagined private lives of public figures using cleverly styled lookalikes. Resemblance becomes real, and fantasy touches on the plausible. Alison creates scenes that the public have all imagined but never seen. It's an exploration of our insatiable desire to get personal with public personalities, raising questions about the power and seductive nature of imagery which incites voyeurism and our need to believe - Alison challenges our preconceptions. Alison takes portraits of (real!) famous actors, politicians and celebrities, collected by Museum collections, such as at the National Portrait Gallery, The Parliamentary Art Collection in London and SF MOMA, San Francisco amongst many others. In 2019 Alison founded and launched the photography initiative to include photography workshops, programs, competition and exhibition of A Day in Your Life/Young Artists to cultivate, nurture and celebrate the future creatives of tomorrow from under - represented, lower socio-economic, minority backgrounds, and people living with disabilities. Anyone who hasn't had a chance to showcase their talent yet - A Day in Your Life/Young Artists can provide creative lifelines but also life-changing opportunity for all ages: from 7 upwards. Alison mentors young people and is a Member of the Alumni Council for The Royal College of Art, Trustee of Chelsea Art Theatre; Ambassador to the K&C Foundation; Ambassador to the Spinal Injuries Association. Jackson supports a number of charities, including MacMillan Cancer Support, Marie-Curie, Jeans for Genes Day and Cancer Research UK amongst others. She has published numerous books including Private Confidential, by Penguin, Confidential by Taschen, Up the Aisle, Stern Private. Her work has been acquired by many public museum collections including The Parliamentary Art Collection, London; The National Portrait Gallery, London; SF MOMA, San Francisco; London; Musée de la Photographie, Charleroi, Brussels; The Frances Foundation, Paris and The International Centre of Photography amongst others. Laura Hope Eye Spy I, 2023 Mixed media on paper Signed on Verso 10 x 15cm (3¾ x 5¾ in.) This lot has been curated by Verity Babbs About My work is centred around unspoken emotions and quiet inner lives. Created from my own staged photographs of models, it is often a response to memories, relationships and personal crisis. Through composition, cropping and reversing the image, I strive to convey an uneasy narrative that shines a light on subtle feelings that often hide in the shadows. With hints to another era, my figures live in a world that is both nostalgic and present. I sit on the fence between painting and drawing - feeling that 'painting' better describes my process but knowing that 'drawing' is my method of creation. My training as an illustrator as well as my time working as a memorial artist (hand etching onto granite) have cemented the importance of line and mark making in my practice. A combination of thick, harsh scribbles and precise, light touches alongside a unique translation of colour are the voices used to tell my stories. Statement about AOAP Submitted Artwork "The Night-Wanderer expresses the longing to return to the place where I grew up, the bitter, salty wind smell of the sea, an imaginary return to the North-Sea of my childhood.
