Lot 1334

A 19th century mahogany tray, with deep gallery and carrying recess to either side. Width 48.5 cm together with a Georgian tea caddy. CONDITION REPORT: The tray is structurally sound with no significant condition issues. It has minor scuffs and marks to the extremities. The base is made from two sections of mahogany. The join line between the two panels is visible. The green baize from the underside is missing. The caddy is a little tired. The top has some surface scuffs and scratches. There are some rubs to the corners. The interior is largely missing. The lock escutcheon is missing. The lock is present but not operating. The front left hand corner of the plinth has a loss. The left hand return moulding at the base is completely missing as is 15% of the rear moulding.

Lot 1344

A Black Forest carved jewellery casket, with hinged top and swing out compartments and base compartment. Width 25 cm. CONDITION REPORT: The tray is structurally sound with no significant condition issues. It has minor scuffs and marks to the extremities. The base is made from two sections of mahogany. The join line between the two panels is visible. The green baize from the underside is missing. The caddy is a little tires. The top has some surface scuffs and scratches. A late Victorian mahogany pedestal desk, with red tooled leather writing surface and moulded edge above three frieze drawers and three opposing dummy drawers, each pedestal fitted with three further drawers all with brass drop handles and raised on a plinth base with recessed brass and iron castors. Width 129 cm.

A Victorian oak pedestal desk, with green leatherette writing surface, moulded edge and rounded corners, fitted with three frieze drawers and three further drawers to each pedestal, brass drop handles with embossed oval backplates raised on a plinth base. Width 120 cm.

Lot 1394

A Regency mahogany side cabinet, with later slate top above the inverted breakfront fitted with a series of drawers and cupboards, the side cupboards flanked by flat pilasters with metal capitals and all raised on a plinth base. Width 158 cm. CONDITION REPORT: The slate top is in very good condition with no issues. The three frieze drawers are in good order and run smoothly. If you look very carefully at the drawers you will notice that at some point there have been handles attached. These would not have been original which is presumably why they have been removed. You will see faint circular silhouette marks where the handles have been. The three doors are in good order as are the brass grilles and metalwork. The plinth base has some minor scuffs and marks as one would expect but again no real issues. The backboards are original. We can see no evidence of any woodworm.

Lot 1422

A large pair of composition simulated sandstone recumbent lion garden ornaments. Length 130 cm, height 75 cm (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: The right hand lion is in generally good condition with no significant issues. There are no major scuffs or marks to the main body of the lion. The only minor issue is some nibbling to the bottom edge of the plinth, particularly to the front and back probably caused by moving to the saleroom by the vendor. The left hand lion has no significant issues with the lion itself. The very centre of the plinth has a chip. The rear left hand corner of the plinth has a clean break. The piece measures 20 cm x 20 cm. The long edge 28 cm. This would easily go back in place once the lions are in situ.

Lot 993

A large 19th century National Cash Register Company brass till, bearing plaque, width 53 cm. CONDITION REPORT: The till is in generally good order. All keys depress and spring back into position as they should, the drawer opens and the bell rings. The price markers rise and fall as they should. The wooden plinth base is in good condition all round with only minor scuffs and the odd nibble to the timber. The brasswork appears to be all in good order with no losses. The piano front lifts to show the digit counters which also appear to advance with each depress of the keys. The only minor problem with the piece is that the top rectangular section of glass has one edge chip and numerous small edge nibbles as one would expect. The rear glass panel also has a small top edge chip and minor edge nibbles. The front glass panel appears to be in good order. We have four till keys of various skeleton types. The other minor issue is that the cylindrical lock barrel to the piano front has a partial loss. The lock however is present. The key does operate and the lock also.

Lot 1457

A Victorian oak hall table, with moulded edge raised on silhouette end supports and with panelled back. Width 122 cm. CONDITION REPORT: Depth 49.5 cm, height 83 cm, width 122 cm. The hall table is in generally very good order. It is a good uniform colour. The top is not significantly stained or marked and there are no cracks. The frieze is in good condition all round. The silhouette sides and panelled back are in very good condition as is the plinth base. The back panels are original. In our opinion the piece could be used in its current state without the need for any work.

Lot 1487

A Victorian mahogany washstand, with marble upstand and top, fitted with two drawers with cupboards beneath and with plinth base. Width 110 cm. CONDITION REPORT: The rear upstand and shelf are in good order. The top left hand gallery return has a full height break running from the top of the second step (half way up) down to the base. The crack is clearly visible. The remainder of the top is in generally good with only minor surface scuffs and scratches as one would expect. The cupboard beneath is structurally sound. There are old scuffs and marks to the timber but no significant issues. The piece is structurally sound. The drawers run smoothly. There are no significant cracks to the doors. The doors are not warped. The door is actually locked and we do not have a key. There are some minor scuffs and nibbles to the veneers around the plinth has. We can see no evidence of any woodworm.

Lot 1545

A George III style mahogany serpentine fronted pedestal desk, with brown tooled leather writing surface and three frieze drawers, each pedestal fitted with three drawers and opposing dummy drawers. Width 160 cm (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: : The desk is structurally sound with no serious condition issues. The tooled leather writing surface has some old ring and liquid marks and various minor scratches and discolouration, with no tears or losses. The moulded edge is in good condition all round with some wear to the polish just above the kneehole. All drawer fronts are in generally good condition with only minor nibbles at the extremities. All handles are present. There are some veneer nibbles and small losses to either side of the kneehole recess. The four canted angles all have minor abrasions and rubs, no real issues. The opposite side of the desk with the dummy drawers has one small veneer loss to the top pedestal fake drawer. The sides of the desk are in good order with no splits. The plinth base has minor scuffs and marks as one would probably expect. The desk cold be used in its current state without the need for any work.

Lot 1579

A pair of Victorian oak columns, with flat backs and Corinthian capitals. Height 139 cm, width 54 cm (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: The two pillars have probably been from either side of a fireplace. The tops of both capitals have surface scuffs and marks. One has had something screwed to the rear. Both tops are flat and there are no problems with the moulded edge. The carving to the capitals on both columns is all present with no losses. The rectangular columns beneath are also in good condition. Each plinth base has only the outer edge moulding and front moulding. What would be the internal return is simply an unfinished piece of oak. Both columns are loose at the point where they join the base. They are otherwise structurally very sound. We can see no evidence of any woodworm.

Lot 1583

A Victorian oak breakfront sideboard, with pair of mirrored centre doors flanked on either side by open adjustable shelves and barley sugar twist column supports and with plinth base beneath. Width 221 cm. NOTE - part mirrored and panelled back available.

Lot 1617

A 19th century mahogany partners desk, with inverted breakfront, three frieze drawers, cupboard to each pedestal, panelled sides and raised on a plinth base. Width 170 cm, depth 91 cm, height 84 cm. CONDITION REPORT: The desk is structurally very sound. The tooled leather writing surface which is likely to be original is in generally good condition with no significant scratches, scuffs or any holes. The outline of the timber framework beneath the leather is visible in places and there is slight rippling to the writing surface which in our opinion is not problematic. The mahogany edge surrounding the leather is in generally good condition. There is one small area that has had a small filled repair. The frieze drawers run smoothly. The cupboard doors are not warped. The left hand cupboard door panel has a full height stress fracture. There are some scuffs around the kneehole as one would expect. The right hand desk side panel has a stress fracture to the panel. The desk is panelled all round so can be used in a freestanding capacity. The panels to either side of the kneehole both have a stress fracture to the main surface. Generally speaking the desk is in good order. We have called the desk a partners desk in that it can be sat at on both sides, however only one side is fitted with actual drawers and cupboards.

Lot 1619

A Victorian mahogany open bookcase, with rear upstand moulded edge and adjustable shelves with plinth base beneath. Width 91 cm. CONDITION REPORT: The bookcase is in generally good order. The upstand and top are in good condition with no splits, cracks or serious marks. The bottom left hand corner of the frieze has a stress fracture to the veneer and a small loss of moulding. The right hand return moulding has a small loss of +/- 3 cm right at the rear. The side of the bookcase are in good condition as are the pilasters and shelves. The plinth base is in generally good order all round. The backboards are original. There is no evidence of any woodworm.

An Edwardian walnut secretaire bookcase, with moulded cornice above a pair of glazed doors and secretaire, the base fitted with a pair of panelled cupboard doors and raised on a plinth. Width 107.5 cm, height 210 cm.

Lot 1675

A large Victorian mahogany breakfront bookcase, with detachable moulded cornice above four arched glazed panelled doors enclosing adjustable shelves the base fitted with a series of drawers and panelled cupboards with plinth beneath. Height 258 cm, width across waist 220 cm, depth 55 cm. CONDITION REPORT: The cornice is in good condition all round. All upper doors close as they should and there are no warps. The glass sis not cracked. The left hand side panel is in good condition. The right hand side panel has a very small top left hand corner veneer nibble. The adjustable shelves are all present but do have some minor veneer losses to the front edges. The top of the base is in good condition with only minor surface scratches and marks as one would expect. The base doors all close as they should and are not warped. The right hand door has a small veneer nibble to the top edge. The sides of the base have no significant issues. The plinth has the usual scuffs and marks that one would expect but no serious problems. The backboards are original.

Lot 1682

A Victorian walnut open bookcase, with shelves flanked by corbels and raised on a plinth base. Width 90 cm. CONDITION REPORT: The bookcase is in extremely good condition and could be used in its current state without the need for any work. It is a good uniform colour. The top has no significant marks or scratches. The shelves are in good condition and there are no splits to the sides. The plinth is in good order as are the backboards. There is no evidence of any woodworm.

Lot 1726

An early Victorian mahogany longcase clock, with arched painted dial with scenes depicting commerce to the arch and the spandrels emblematic of the four seasons, with eight day striking movement the case with applied mouldings and raised on short bun feet. Height 230 cm including finial. CONDITION REPORT: The clock case is in generally good condition. The hood is in good order. The door is not warped. Around the arch there is a small piece of shallow moulding. There is a small section of this missing at the right hand side of the clock towards the wall. The trunk door is not warped. We have two weights and a pendulum. The right hand side of the case has a stress fracture to the timber would easily rectify. The base panel has stress fracture running from left to right. The plinth base and feet are in generally good order. We have not had the clock running, but when weight is applied to the going train it appears to tick. The same applies to the strike train. The date hand is missing. The minute pointer has had a broken end.

Lot 1750

A Victorian mahogany chiffonier, with shelved back and scroll supports, the base with drawer and panelled cupboard doors raised on a plinth. Width 100 cm. CONDITION REPORT: The chiffonier is in generally good condition. The three quarter gallery has a very tiny nibble to the top right hand rear corner. The shelf is in good condition as are the scroll supports. The top is a good colour and there are no splits. The frieze drawer runs smoothly and there are no issues. The door panels are not warped. The doors meet correctly in the centre. There are some minor stress fractures around the door frames which should be visible on our website image. These are to the centre right of the left panel and centre left of the right panel. The sides of the piece are in good order as is the plinth. The backboards are original.

Lot 1797

A late Victorian oak open bookcase, with moulded edge above a series of adjustable shelves flanked by pilasters and with plinth base. Width 107 cm. CONDITION REPORT: The bookcase is in generally good condition. The top is flat with no warping. There are numerous old scratches and marks and two stress fractures to the oak which in our opinion are not a significant issue. The sides of the bookcase are in good order. The frieze is in good condition as are the pilasters. We do not have any retaining pegs for the shelves. These are just cylindrical holes and a correct size dowel would suffice. The backboards are original and in good condition. The plinth base is a little marked and scuffed as one would expect.

Lot 1824

A Victorian mahogany chiffonier, with carved and scrolling pediment above a shallow shelf in turn above a single drawer with well figured arched panelled doors flanked by carved corbels, all on a plinth base. 117.5 cm wide, 146.5 cm high, 47 cm deep.

Lot 1891

A Howard & Sons Berner Street oak secretaire cupboard, fitted with a series of secretaire drawer and panelled cupboard doors and all raised on a plinth base stamped to top of secretaire. Width 198 cm, height 111 cm, depth 45 cm (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: The cupboard is in generally good condition. The colour is good and uniform throughout. The top is in good condition with no significant splits or marks. The secretaire drawer is not warped and opens as it should. The interior hinges are present. The leather writing surface is serviceable but scuffed and badly marked in places. The cupboard doors are not warped and both open to shelves. The centre panel doors are a little stiff at the hinges but again are not warped and meet correctly in the middle. The base moulding between the two centre doors is misaligned. If moved to the right when put back together this would not leave a gap on the right hand side. We have just done this. On the left hand side there is however the small piece of return moulding which is actually missing.

Lot 1893

A Victorian mahogany chiffonier, with carved and shelved upstand, moulded edge and three arched panelled doors flanked by corbals and raised on a plinth base. Width 165 cm, height 161 cm, depth 50.5 cm. CONDITION REPORT: The chiffonier is in generally very good order. The rear upstand and shelf have no issues and are of good colour. The scrolling supports are in good order also. The top is flat and has no splits or any significant scratching. The sides of the cabinet are not split. All doors close as they should with no warping. There are scuffs and marks around the lock escutcheons and a small scratch to the centre door panel. All locks are present. We do not have a key. The doors are not locked. The plinth base is in generally good condition all round with only minor marks as one would expect. The rear panels are all original.

An Edwardian walnut bookcase, with swans neck pediment above a pair of glazed doors enclosing adjustable shelves, the base with two drawers above a pair of panelled cupboard doors all raised on a plinth base. Width 117.5 cm.

Lot 1929

A Victorian walnut chest of drawers, with rear upstand and rounded corners and with two short and two long graduated drawers with wooden knob handles all raised on a plinth base. Width 90 cm.

Lot 1943

A 19th century French side cabinet stamped with the retailer James Winter Soho London, marked to the rear Gueret Freres, 216 Lafayette, Paris, also stamped to the lock, with rear upstand, breakfront and fitted with a drawer, cupboards and open shelves and raised on a plinth base.
