Sir Ambrose Heal (1872-1959) for Heal & Son, a laurel and inlaid Signed Edition Series bookcase, 1929, with ebony lines and abalone highlights, with a shaped cornice above two glazed doors, the base with two slides with ivory buttons above panel doors, on a plinth, labels and ivorine circular disc, 194cm high, 92cm wide, 47cm deep. A Fabulous 16th Century Verona Marble Font. The bowl carved with protruding lion heads dividing various depictions including dogs, crouching lions, serpents & stylized foliage. The centre column support profusely decorated with intricately carved animals; birds and horses entwined in a lattice of scrolling vines. Standing on a square bevelled plinth enriched with foliate forms. 49½ ins (125 cms) in height, 22 ins (56 cms) in diameter. [Previously of Warter Priory, E. Yorkshire. Restored].
A Fine Late 16th Century Inlaid Oak Chest. The upper section having a rising planked top with cleated ends enclosing a box compartment; the front having three panels with geometric ebonised inlay above three long drawers similarly inlaid & divided by dogtooth bands. Standing on block feet with later plinth rails, 41 ins (104 cms) in height, 42½ ins (108 cms) in width, 23½ ins (60 cms) deep. (Provenance: Ex Benacre Hall, Bishop of Winchester).
