A matched pair of Regency rosewood and brass inlaid bookcases , circa 1815, each with specimen marble tops with three-quater pierced gallery above adjustable shelves fronted by wellington action pilasters, plinth base, and brass lion-paw feet, the larger, 96cm high, 87cm wide, 35cm deep, the smaller 96cm high, 80cm wide, 35cm deep Provenance: Goodnestone Park, Kent For a pair of bookcases of very similar design, see Christie s Gyrn Castle sale, 17th July 2006. Interestingly, in common with the current bookcases, the Gyrn Castle bookcases showed clear evidence of having previous, but not original doors. A bookcase of very similar design was supplied by George Oakley to James Henry Leigh (d.1823) for Stoneleigh Abbey, Warwickshire between 1813 and 1819. The Stoneleigh bookcase was sold Christie's King Street, 8 June 2006, lot 25. George Oakley (d.1840) operated the Bond Street fi rm, Oakley & Co., 'Manufactory and Magazine for fashionable Furniture' which attracted the patronage of George IV when Prince of Wales and Prince Regent.

A Japanese lacquered stand, 20th Century The rectangular plinth top with swept metal bound edges, raised on four architectural form supports and cut out with fan shaped panels, with allover gilt, red and black lacquered decoration, 10cm high, 26cm wide, 16cm deep. CONDITION REPORT: Lot 75: Each of the relief scroll edges have minor loss to the black lacquer. Overall variegated patination to the top, it is difficult to be certain if this is damage or minor discolouration and natural wear to metal mounts. Small lossess to lacquer throughout.
A fine 19th century carved ivory Dieppe figure of Marie Antoinette Heavily carved with her dress opening to depict Robespierre and Louis XVI flanking a central scene of Louis XVI bidding farewell to his family prior to his execution at the guillotine, raised on ebonised plinth base, height 24cm. (illustrated) CONDITION REPORT: Lot 263 - left hinge missing a screw, minor cracking to ivory, chip to crown of hair and piece missing.

CONDITION REPORT: Lot 826 - missing back, splits to top, approx 33cm, light scratches, side split, largest corner with chipping to veneer.
A Burmese Shan-style giltwood figure of Buddha, 19th Century Carved in standing position on a high lotus base, wearing flowing robes and carved pectoral adornment, his hands cast in karana mudra (banishing and expelling negativity), with elongated ear lobes, downcast eyes and arched eyebrows, his head surmounted by high ushnisha, mounted on a later ebonised plinth base, 149cm high. (illustrated) CONDITION REPORT: Lot 117- large crack extending approx 10cm in length to the back of the head -the back is ungilded and painted black - large crack to the base extending up left foot, approx 6cm in size - crack to left shoulder approx 4cm in length - gilding worn indicative of age
