Inside the cheeks of the case there are two blocks which guide the hood into position, likewise these appear to be original as do the nails which attach them. The previous owner of the clock is known to us and it is known that the clock was sent away and subject to an expensive restoration to the movement and case so it should be considered as restored but in a very sympathetic manner.

Lot 623

A silvered bronze model of the Duke of Wellington mounted on a stepped plinth base. 32.5 cm high.

Lot 365

A 19th century figured walnut and marquetry Davenport desk; the stationery cabinet opening to reveal compartmentalised interior above a sloping serpentine-fronted fall further opening to reveal a single central drawer, four true and four dummy drawers opposing, on cabriole-style front supports carved at the knees with foliate ornament, plinth-style base and raised on small bun-style feet with china casters (55cm wide x 55cm deepest x 83cm high)Condition Report: It is noted that the piece is quite faded on top and darker on the back and sides. The marquetry is faded quite prominently on the fall and there is minor damage to some of the veneers on the fall. There is a 1cm x 8cm piece that is cracked on the top. There are water marks on the top. The inside looks very dirty and would benefit from a good clean. There are minor veneers away to the surface of the support when the cover is lifted. Underneath the cover, the leather section exhibits two or three 7-8cm splits. There is a repaired section to the left-hand side of the hinge (probably 3-4cm square). One of two vertical, historic splits to the back. No real evidence of woodworm, historic or otherwise. The stationery cabinet looks like it needs re-building when the lid is lifted and there may well have been a gallery around it (no longer present). The drawers all retain their original locks. The cabriole-shaped carved supports look in good order and the bun feet terminate in white china castors. Overall the piece would benefit from being professionally restored.
