Lot 271

A George IV rosewood low open front bookcase, the rectangular top above a plain frieze and adjustable shelving between hinged moulded columns with carved capitals and raised on a plain plinth base, 93 cm x 143 cm x 45 cm (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: The top has several marks and scratches throughout, generally usage scratches some with darker staining. The upper right-hand corner has some veneer depletions. The frieze moulding is reattached to the left side with a section missing. The left hand side hinged column has some small depletions, the right hand side column has some marks and scratches etc. The plinth base with some depletions to the left corner, scuffs and staining. The interior with varying degrees of wear, mainly the upper right shelf with various scratches.

Lot 369

A Victorian figured mahogany chest of drawers, having a reeded rectangular top over two short and six long cockbeaded drawers each with turned knob handles and raised on a plain plinth base, 159 cm x 115 cm x 53 cm (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: Some minor marks, stains and scratches etc. Small cockbeading depletions to drawers but generally good.

Lot 389

A pair of 19th century Japanese brown patinated bronze bottle shaped vases, converted to electric table lamps, bases drilled and with oak octagonal plinths. 58 cm overall. CONDITION REPORT: Good condition other than the conversion and mounting with some minor marks etc. These vases are screwed to oak plinths. Having unscrewed one of the plinths it is apparent that the vases have had their bases removed and wooden blocks have been inserted into the base of the vase as an anchor point for the screws that are running up from underneath the plinth. There are no signatures visible and there is surface wear and minor scratching throughout the vases including moderate wear to the brown patina to the centre of the necks.

Lot 499

A 19th century Turner carved black basalt two handled urn of Neo-Classical design, with twin bacchanalian masks, swags and gadrooned lower body on square plinth. 30 cm high. CONDITION REPORT: The vase has been separated from its socle base and has some minor associated damages to each aperture. The base has some flake chips and corner knocks and the base underside has some shrinkage or splits in the manufacture with a flake chip to the edge, otherwise the vase is in good condition and has very minor marks to the body but nothing of any significance.

Lot 535

A 19th century Japanese bronze, depicting a rodent on top of a mallet, signed. Height excluding wooden plinth 20 cm, length 28 cm (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: The surface of the bronze has some minor wear to places. The rodents tip of its tail is missing and there is damage to the cord tassels where the bronze has broken in three places and is loose but attached. The barrel section has some patches of extreme wear and the rodent is loose within its mount. There are circular wear marks the rodent has swivelled. The wooden base has wear, marks and scratches but overall is in good condition.

A Victorian white and brown painted chest of drawers, on plinth supports. 102 cm high x 115 cm wide x 47 cm deep. CONDITION REPORT: This chest of drawers had chipping to the paintwork throughout and in addition there is an applied oak panel to one side for key hanging.

Lot 694

Two early 19th century Staffordshire lions, each raised on a rectangular plinth. Length 33 cm, height 24 cm. CONDITION REPORT: The brown lion on yellow base has a section broken, re stuck and with part missing to the rear left-hand corner. Looking to the underside of the model there is a hairline crack that emanates from this damaged area the entire width of the figure. The lion has damage to the tongue and two upper teeth. The other figure appears to have been detached from its base and re-glued all apart from the base of the tail. So what appears to have happened is that the figure has been dropped and separated from the base - you can see a break in the tail towards the lower portion just above the base section. There is damage to the two upper teeth, the tongue and the left-hand lower tooth. The base has chipping to the front left and front right corners, together with a couple of chips along the width of the front. There is small chipping areas to the back of the base as well.

An Art Deco variegated marble circular mantle clock, on rectangular plinth with spelter ibex. Length 45 cm, height 22 cm, depth 10 cm. CONDITION REPORT: The movement winds and appears to be ticking away. The pointers adjust as they should. The marble clock surround and base in in generally good condition. There is one front right hand corner base edge chip which is not particularly visible but clearly present. The ibex is a little stained with Verdigris. This should in the main just wash off with a damp cloth.

A Victorian mahogany pedestal desk, with green tooled leather writing surface and fitted with three frieze drawers above three further drawers to each pedestal and with plinth base and castors. Width 135 cm.

Lot 1717

A Victorian mahogany bookcase, with detachable moulded cornice above a pair of glazed doors enclosing adjustable shelves, the base fitted with a pair of panelled cupboard doors flanked by fluted pilasters and raised on a plinth. Height across waist 120 cm, depth 47.5 cm. CONDITION REPORT: Please note that this a secretaire bookcase and the catalogue description is therefore incorrect. The overall height is 220 cm. The width across the waist is 104 cm. The maximum depth is actually 47.5 cm. The left hand cornice top section of moulding is missing and there is some veneer damage to the left hand corner of the frieze. The doors are not warped and close as they should. The centre edging strip has a partial break and is loose but there are no losses. The sides of the top are in good order. The same comments apply to the base. The shelf beneath the cupboard doors have some minor surface scratches. The secretaire drawer is in generally good condition. The leather is a little worn along the seam. The doors beneath are not warped. The centre edging strip is missing. The plinth base is in generally good order all round. The backboards are original. We can see no evidence of any woodworm.

Lot 1754

A George III mahogany longcase clock by Robert Manley London, with eight day striking movement, long trunk door and panelled base raised on bracket feet. Height 220 cm. CONDITION REPORT: The movement winds on both trains and is currently ticking away and striking when advanced. The date wheel is present but currently detached from the movement and requires some attention. The dial has lost all of its silvering but is in generally good order. The hood door has a cracked glass. The trunk door is not warped. We have both the hood and trunk door keys and they do lock. The lock escutcheons are later. The case is in generally good condition with only minor blemishes. There is a stress fracture to the join running vertically on the bottom front panel. The plinth moulding seems to be raised on later short bracket type feet.

Lot 1777

A Victorian secretaire bookcase, with moulded cornice above a pair of glazed doors opening to shelves, the base with secretaire drawer above a pair of panelled cupboard doors and all raised on a plinth. Height 120 cm, width 108.5 cm, depth 44 cm. CONDITION REPORT: The bookcase is in generally good condition throughout, the right glazed door is missing the brass escutcheon, the top has been re-fixed to the base with various screw holes (10). On the lower stage, the drawer is missing its brass escutcheon, the drawer opens to reveal a heavily worn skiver with central split and various losses, the three frieze drawers have minor damages to each and some staining to the lower slides, the right-side base panel door has losses to the moulding and is lacking its brass escutcheon. The interior is lacking the adjustable shelving and the left-hand door is missing the lock catch, the internal backboards have a small hole to the upper left corner, the exterior of the bookcase with minor marks and scratches, edge knocks etc.

Lot 1803

An early 19th century oak and mahogany crossbanded longcase clock, with movement by James smith of Wrexham, the 33 cm painted dial with calendar aperture to the eight day movement striking on a bell, contained in case with swan neck cresting, turned pilaster hood, the trunk with fluted quartered columns and later inlaid with checkered banding and shell paterae. 213 cm high. CONDITION REPORT: The movement winds on the left hand train and seems to wind on the right although the gut has slipped from the barrel. We have the key weights and pendulum but have not had the clock ticking. The movement looks reasonably clean. The hood is in generally good condition. There is some veneer loss above the left hand pillar. The hood door is not warped. The trunk door is also not warped. The lock escutcheon is missing. The sides of the case and base are in generally good order. The front panel has a centre stress fracture and some minor discolouration. Part of the lower base plinth moulding is missing on the right hand side and on the right hand return. The backboards are original. We can see no evidence of any woodworm.
