Lot 23

An early 19c Eight day longcase clock, the 30cm arched painted dial signed F. Brodrick, Whittlesey and having paintings of fruit in the corners and flowers in the arch. The movement is of standard construction with rack strike and anchor escapement and is contained in an oak and mahogany case with arched hood with swan neck pediments over. Fluted columns flank the dial and the trunk has canted front corners and a long trunk door with an oval central inlay and mahogany crossbanded edges. The base is plain with similar crossbanded edges and has a wavy plinth. 208cms h.

A late 19c miniature Knight's armour for man and horse in 16c style, the horse of carved wood fitted with full panoply of armour and jousting lance, mounted on a rectangular wooden plinth with attached retailers label for G Roberson & Co. Piccadilly London. 45cms h overall.

A late 17c month going longcase with 30cms arched brass dial signed John Miller Londini fecit and having cherubs and orb spandrels with wheat ear engraving to the dial edges. The movement has five pillars and employs outside counterwheel striking and is of month duration. John Miller was apprenticed to Samuel Knibb in 1666 and later to Joseph Knibb. The movement is lacking its pendulum. the clock is now housed in a later black lacquer base which has a flat caddy top to the hood and plain columns attached to the hood door. The long arched trunk door and the base have chinoiserie lacquer work and the base has a plain plinth. 221cms h.

A late 18c 8 day longcase clock the 30.5cm arched painted dial signed Hampston Prince and Cattles , York. the dial is plain with no corner decoration and has Roman numerals with outer Arabic 5 minute markers and has seconds and date dials. The hands are of unmatched steel and the four pillar movement is rack striking on a bell and has anchor escapement. it is contained in an oak and mahogany case with swan necks to the hood and three bell and spire finials. there are freestanding fluted columns flanking the dial and the trunk has fluted quarter columns. the long trunk door has a wavy top and a mahogany cross banded strip around its edges. the base has a rectangular applied panel with a similar strip and a plinth with bracket feet. 228.5cms h.

Provenance: the vendor is directly descended from an historically important aristocratic Prussian family: Johann Jacob Moser (1701-1785) considered to have laid the legal foundations of the modern German state, whose daughter, Christine-Beate, married Karl Gottlob von Mohl; their descendants were well-connected statesmen, jurists, diplomats, botanists and intellectuals, including Robert, Hugo, Julius and Ottmar von Mohl.

David Shrigley OBE (British, b.1968). 'Ace of Clubs'. Paint on card, signed 'D.Shrig' and dated verso. 30 x 21cm. David John Shrigley OBE is a British visual artist. He lived and worked in Glasgow, Scotland for 27 years before moving to Brighton, England in 2015.As well as authoring several books, he directed the video for Blur's Good Song and also for Bonnie 'Prince' Billy's Agnes, Queen of Sorrow. In 2005 he designed a London Underground leaflet cover. Since 2005, he has contributed a cartoon for The Guardian's Weekend magazine every Saturday.[16] Other projects have included the album Worried Noodles (Tom Lab, 2007) where musicians interpret his writings as lyrics, including collaborations by David Byrne, Hot Chip, and Franz Ferdinand.Recent notable solo exhibitions include Animate, Turku Art Museum, Finland (2011); Kelvingrove Museum, Glasgow International Festival of Visual Arts, Glasgow, Scotland (2010); New Powers, Kunsthalle Mainz, Germany (2009); David Shrigley, Museum Ludwig, Cologne, Germany (2008); Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art, Gateshead, UK (2008); Everything Must Have a Name, Malmö Konsthall, Malmo, Sweden (2007) and David Shrigley, Dundee Contemporary Arts, Dundee, Scotland (2006).Shrigley's sculpture Really Good was installed on Trafalgar Square's Fourth plinth in September 2016 until March 2018. LADISLAV ŠALOUN 1870 - 1946: A STATUE OF TYRŠ Ca. 1925 Bronze 64 cm Signed: On the plinth "L Šaloun" Ladislav Šaloun became famous in his time as an excellent portraitist and portrayed many famous personalities. The most famous is his monument to Jan Hus on the Old Town Square. In the portrait of PhDr. Miroslav Tyrš, co-founder of the Sokol of Prague, chose an elegant style, depicting Tyrš as a proud elegant man in a Sokol costume with a sword. Unfortunately, the original large statue was destroyed during the war, but its copy was created in the courtyard of Tyrš's house in Prague-Újezd according to a preserved model. Marked with foundry hallmark of Karel Barták.
