* Attributed to Josefina Alys Hermes de Vasconcellos (1904-2005), study of a young female, long hair, leaning forward. Height 18.5 cm, raised on a fossilitic marble plinth, overall height 22 cm (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: The sculpture itself is in very good condition with no visible damage, no repairs and no restoration. The marble base has a number of surface scuffs and scratches as well as chips to in particular the underside edge. None of these detract from the piece in our opinion.
An Oriental carved ivory lion, in standing roaring pose, late 19th century, raised on a slate or black marble plinth. Length 11.8 cm (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: There are no losses to this piece. There is one break to the rear backwards facing leg. There are various hairline stress marks to the ivory on both sides of the piece b but other than this the condition is generally very good.
A late 19th/early 20th century Chinese carved ivory figure group, man with branch with seated figure beneath holding a bat, raised on a later wooden plinth. Height 20 cm (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: This figure group is in generally very good condition. We can see no evidence of any damage, repairs or restoration. There are no losses anywhere on the piece. There are also none of the usual stress and hairline crack fractures that often appear on ivory.
A pair of early 20th century carved ivory spill vases, each raised on a wooden plinth. Height 22 cm. CONDITION REPORT: Both vases have significant stress fractures running the whole length of the piece from top to bottom. The fractures follow the lines of the carving but are clearly visible from the exterior of each piece. They cannot be seen from the interior. There are also other small hairline stress marks in the ivory. Both wooden bases have stress cracks also but no areas of loss.
