A GLAZED POTTERY SHRINE OR ORNAMENT, BURMA, EARLY 20TH CENTURY honey glazed slip decorated red earthenware, depicting two devotees flanking an altar, on an elaborate raised plinth, a scrolling openwork finial at the back 39cm high Provenance: Private Collection, London, acquired about 60 years ago Although Burma is better known for other crafts, such as wood and stone sculpture, lacquer, metalwork and painting, glazed pottery figural tilework was produced in Pegu in the 15th century, an example of which is in the Victoria and Albert Museum (IS 2 1966), as well as a later example thought to date from the early 19th century (04160A IS). This lot was probably produced during the late colonial period for the British market.

 â’¼ A BRONZE FIGURE OF VENUS, PROBABLY FRENCH 17TH / 18TH CENTURY of Venus Pudica type but looking over her right shoulder, modelled in contrapposto, her lowered right arm clutching a drapery, her raised left hand shielding one breast, on a naturalistic base, dark patinated, on a square Rosso Levanto marble plinth bronze 27cm high, 36cm high overall Provenance: Gerald Coke (1907-1990) of Jenkyn Place, Bentley, Hampshire; to his son, the vendor, John Coke. Gerald Coke was a very successful business man and collector. He is perhaps best known for the Coke Handel Collection, an outstanding assembly of 'Handeliana' left to the nation (allocated to the Foundling Museum), his collection of James Giles decorated Worcester porcelain (bequeathed to the Worcester Porcelain Museum) and for the famous gardens he and his wife created at Jenkyn Place. Additionally he had collected Regency furniture during the war, as well as Renaissance bronzes, apparently turning from the latter because of their increasing cost (The Independent, 1 September 1995). Much of the furniture and furnishings from Jenkyn Place were sold at the auction 'The Coke Collection from Jenkyn Place', Christie's, London, 7 October 1996. This figure is probably from a model produced by one of the sculptors working for Louis XIV's court such as Corneille van Cleve (1645-1732) or Robert Le Lorrain (1666-1743). Richard Förster (St. Petersburg 1873 - München 1956) – Satz von sechs feinen Moriskentänzern, süddeutsch, Anfang 20. Jhdt. Auf Lapislazuli-Sockeln die vollrund gearbeiteten Moriskentänzer in Silber, teilweise vergoldet. Gestempelt mit "925" und schwer leserlichem Monogramm. Zusätzlich auf der Plinthe mit Namen der jeweils Dargestellten etikettiert. Nach den berühmten Moriskentänzern, die für das Alte Rathaus in München von Erasmus Grasser um das Jahr 1480 geschaffen wurden. Richard Förster war ein deutscher Bildhauer, Medailleur und Porzellan-Designer. Nach seiner Ausbildung am Städelschen Institut in Frankfurt a. M. studierte er von 1899 bis 1901 an der Kunstakademie in München. Neben Statuen, Bildnisbüsten und Medaillen entwarf er auch ab 1919 Figuren für die Manufaktur Rosenthal und ab 1936 für die Manufaktur Allach. Leichte Altersspuren. Vergoldung minimal berieben. Lapislazuli teils bestoßen. Modelled after the famous Moresca dancers created by Erasmus Grasser circa 1480 for the Old Town Hall in Munich. Richard Förster was a German sculptor, medallist and porcelain designer. After training at the Städelsches Kunstinstitut in Frankfurt am Main, he studied at Munich's Academy of Fine Arts from 1899 to 1901. Schöne gewachsene Patina.An imposing pair of French Charles X girandoles, circa 1830 Six-armed. The finely chased bronze with a greenish patina, fire gilt in places. Palmette and acanthus leaf décor on all sides. The paw feet on the stepped, trefoil plinth with a gilt decorative frieze. On the plinth, the fluted shaft in several sections, tapering upwards. The gilt capital embellished with foliage at the top. Five candelabra arms arranged around a sixth, central candle holder. Complete with all sockets. Height 85.5 cm.Condition: I - IICondition Report:Overall in remarkably good condition. Minimal traces of age and use. The gilding slightly abraded in places. Beautiful patina.

He continues to be one of the most sought after yacht designers and is responsible for several of the longest super yachts in the world including Al Salamah and Pelorus. Lot 1041

A French oak buffet a deux corps19th century, 135cm wide; 208cm highCondition report: Overall wear and tear commensurate with age and use. Some shrinkage cracks to the panelled doors. Scuffs, scratches and marks to the top where the upper doors have swung out. The one door with hinge repairs, which require tidying and improving. Enclosing two shelves, one of which is split. Evidence of worm, with various holes. One small section of moulding missing to the front corner of the base plinth. One key present.

Lot 561

A bronze bust of a young boyPossibly by Oliver MesselUnsigned22cm highCondition report: Overall in good condition. Some minor rubbing to the patina as to be expected with age. There are two mounting apertures to the underside for the head to be secured to a plinth base. There are two incised lines to the back of the head, a horizontal I and L, as part of the cast. See additional photographs.

A pair of sycamore Corinthian column table lamps20th Century, probably by LinleyThe tapered columns with gilt-metal capitals and raised on stepped square bases, unsigned, with shades  62cm high, excluding fitments (2)Condition report:Overall in very good condition. The odd very small/minor tiny dent or bruise to the sycamore, commensurate with age and use, including two small  spot marks towards the back of the stepped plinth which can probably be cleaned off. Dirt and dust to some of the recesses and to the shades, consistent with use and age.Electrical cord has been cut and the lamps will obviously require rewiring correctly to PAT safety standards. The shades are creased in a number of areas (see additional photograph of the most severe crease).The dimensions of the bases are: 20.5cm wide; 21cm deep.
