A good Chinese stained ivory figure of a magistrate, seated wearing flowing robes, his left hand resting on his knee, his right holding his belt, raised on a low plinth, late Ming/early Qing dynasty, 16.8cm. Together with a wood stand. (2) Paper label for John Sparks Ltd., 128 Mount Street, where it was purchased for 32 guineas. Provenance: Sackville, 5th Earl of Yarborough. Cf. A large Chinese square stone panel, the surface carved with calligraphy including the date for the second year of Sui gong corresponding to 686AD, the sides with stylized leaf scroll, possibly Tang dynasty, together with a glass top and plinth, to be used as a side table, 38.8cm. An Egyptian bronze figure of Neith, seated on a square-section throne, the eyes inset with gold, the back chased with the outspread winged vulture figure of Mut, mounted on a marble plinth, late dynastic period, c.600BC, some losses, the throne perhaps later, 15cm excluding stand. Andrews, Leadenhall Street, London`, the hood with moulded pediment above Corinthian columns and glazed door, the case with rectangular trunk door, on a plain base and plinth, height approx 212cm, together with pendulum and weight (alterations and restoration).
