Michael of Carlos Place was a couturier in London who influenced high street fashion as an adviser to Marks & Spencer in the 1960s. He worked to improve the cut and cloth of mass manufactured clothes.

Bronze Figure of Durga Mahisasuramardini, Nepal, 17th/18th Century Raised on a double plinth and surrounded by a flaming mandorla with remnants of polychrome, the well patinated figure with prominent features and full lips dressed in an embellished dhoti and decorated with beaded necklace and tall crown, principle hands holding an alms bowl and performing a mudra, the other arms extended and radiating from the slim body, each holding a ritual object and framed by floating ribbons, the serene deity flanked by a lion and kneeling figure of the decapitated buffalo demon. Large Gilt Bronze Seated Buddha, Sino-Tibetan, 17th/18th Century Heavily cast and well patinated throughout, the rounded face with meditative expression and downcast eyes, a broad nose, and full lips framed by a pair of elongated and fleshy ears with tight whorls of hair and an elaborate top knot, the figure dressed in decorated robes cascading away from the body seated in a cross legged position with the soles of his feet upturned, the whole raised on a double lotus plinth performing the vitarka and jnana mudras, height 11.9" — 30.3 cm. Provenance: Private collection of Buddhist Art, Cleveland, Ohio, acquired in the 1990`s. Select parts of the collection were on loan to the Columbus Museum of Art for their 2004 exhibition ‘The Circle of Bliss: Buddhist Meditational Art’. Starting Price: $7500
Rare Famille Rose Standing Figure of Amitayus, 18th/19th Century The crowned figure heavily decorated with jewelry including elaborate earrings and a beaded pendant necklace painted to mimic the inclusion of precious stones, dressed in loose clothing and ribbons, the figure holding a vine of lotus in one hand while standing on a lotus plinth, height 8.1" — 20.5 cm. Provenance: Important Chinese Porcelain and Works of Art from an English Gentleman (lots 197-209) Now residing in Toronto, the owner of this collection dedicated the last 40 years to the full-time study of Asian Arts with a main interest in Chinese ceramics, jades and scholarly objects. A fine display Model of LZ129, Hindenburg. A pre-world war 2 example, possibly intended for US boardroom due to all legends being in English. Constructed of wood, carvel built on plinth. 174.5mm x 43mm x 46 approx. Intended to be viewed from both sides, silvered top half with national insignia on top fin, lower hull is natural wood, with hand-drawn depictions of the internal compartments, with annotations in English on both sides of the ship, depicting interior features. Port side plinth has ships name and designation and date of launch in gold paint, while starboard side shows ships technical data in imperial measurements. GC but requires light restoration. Some damage to starboard aileron, Engine cars are missing, and an attempt at varnishing has left some unsightly drips on this lovely ship. See Plate 9
An extremely fine silver model of R Class Zeppelin. Depicting the Imperial German Navy airship L32 (LZ74) the first of the R Class Zeppelins, mounted on a polished hardwood plinth with perspex supports and engraved nameplate. English silver marks indicate that the model was made in 1986, and detail is excellent, down to the rotating propellers on the individual engine cars. 30cm long, 12 cm high. See Plate 9
An impressive heart shaped wood framed and glazed display of salvaged wire from the airship SL11 famously shot down by William Leefe Robinson. In the centre of the display is an oval wooden plinth (surrounded by an impressive strand of wire), onto which is an oval brass plaque with the following- ‘Souvenir of ‘Our Day” ‘1916’, ‘Made from the German Zeppelin Wire.’ ‘From the first Zeppelin brought down at Cuffley 3rd September 1916’. ‘It is estimated that the souvenirs made from this Zeppelin brought in £25,000 to the funds of the British Red Cross Society.’ ‘The Order of St. John of Jerusalem’. Within the ‘heart’, pinned to a white velvet backing are square cards with various shapes and sizes of wire, each with the red cross symbol and ‘This is a genuine piece of Zeppelin Wire’ etc. Plus a few pieces including a pair of cufflinks made from the salvage mounted on their own to the top of the display. GC for age one piece missing. Slight damage to outer frame. See Plate 21
