WILLIAM WHITE OF MANCHESTER; an early Victorian mahogany longcase clock with broken swan neck pediment above arched painted dial set with Roman numerals, housing an eight day movement with short arched door and plinth base (af), height approx 228cm.Additional InformationDial has been repainted, top of scrolling pediment is damaged. Loose moulding to the swan neck pediments, split to the door, split to the base. The base has also been reduced, it has no feet. Lots of repairs to veneers around the door which have been badly done. Overall a tired example.

An English carved oak gothic tracery fragment, probably 15th century, pierced and with partial painted detail in red, white and green, on a modern oak display plinth, 20.5 x 50cmFootnote: Provenance: Acquired from Jess Applin Antiques, Cambridge, 2 February 2006Condition report: The Chinese Buddhist statuary and associated collection was acquired by C Roger Moss OBE in Hong Kong during the period 1980 to 2003. All items were officially exported from Hong Kong by shippers and handlers recommended and approved by the Mass Transit Railway Corporation of Hong Kong on 10th May 2003, with full documentation. Itemised inspection certificates - dated 24th February, 16th and 23rd April and 7th May 2003 (report No 0254/03) by J & H Surveying Co Ltd, Marine Surveyors - number and detail the items exported. A copy is available at Cheffins’ offices. The shipment arrived in Felixstowe, UK on 29th May 2003 and was received for transhipment by Redfern International Logistics of Leeds, recorded in their sales invoice no. IDSI2926, which details fees paid for the appropriate Sea Import Customs and Sea Import Documentation. A LIFESIZE PLASTER STATUE OF ADMIRAL LORD NELSON 20TH CENTURYPortrayed standing in naval military uniformThe figure approximately 180 cm highCatalogue Note: Vice-Admiral Horatio Nelson, 1st Viscount Nelson, 1st Duke of Bronté, KB was a British naval officer, remembered for his bold military strategies and iconic victories over the French during the Napoleonic wars. He lost his sight in one eye during the Battle at Calvi, Corsica, and later his right arm in the battle of Santa Cruz, Tenerife. He died during the battle of Trafalgar in 1805, shortly after sending out his now famous signal: 'England expects that every man will do his duty' Condition Report: The plaster bears the usual minor marks, knocks and scuffs overall consistent with age. There are some surface marks including to the lower portion of the face, and areas of surface cracking and denting including to shoe buckle and sleeve. There are some minor surface chips and losses overall including to the corners of the plinth, the edge of the hat (largest circa 4-5cm in length), another possible loss to the tip of the sword where a small part of the interior hessian structure of the plaster is visible. Possible repair to tip of nose.The surface is quite textured overall, with a darker finish towards the base.Condition Report Disclaimer
A PAIR OF IMPRESSIVE BRONZED PLASTER MODELS OF I PUGILATORI AFTER ANTONIO CANOVA (ITALIAN, 1757-1822)20TH CENTURYEach portrayed heroically nude and in animated stance of combat, the tallest model 210cm including integral plinth, 279cm overall including painted secondary baseCatalogue note: These impressive models are cast after Antonio Canova's marble sculptures of the Greek boxers Creugas of Durazzo and Damoxenos of Syracuse, whose match is recorded in the 2nd century AD writings of the traveller Pausanias. Canova, who had been appointed minister of the Belle Arti by Pope Pius VII, and conceived of the models in around 1794, and completed the models in 1796. The pugilists were moved to the Vatican in 1797, where they stand to this day.A pair of similarly large casts of these models was included in the auction of the collection of Gianni Versace, Sotheby's London, 18 March 2009, lot 137.Condition Report: Both with some marks, knocks, scratches and abrasion. Some additional small chips and areas of losses to the base. Uneven painted patina as maker intended to simulate bronze. Some minor areas flanking to the paint. Sir Francis Chantrey (1781-1841) was one of Britain's leading portrait sculptors during the early 19th century, whose works are characterised by a striking sense of informality and character, compared to the more rigid portraits of his contemporaries working in the Neoclassical tradition.His best known works include busts of the poet William Wordsworth, and the writer Walter Scott.Condition Report: The greater part of the surface has been degraded, possibly because it has stood outside.
