A large Victorian oak bookcase, c.1870, the pediment with turned finials and lion masks over the glazed upper section, with four glazed doors separated by relief carved pilasters over cupboards beneath, on a plinth base,260cm wide50cm deep280cm highCondition report: Shelves of various dates and with various mouldings. Splits to two of the door panels, one with a butterfly tied repair. Some carved elements appear to be later additions. The carved shields and finials possibly later. Pilasters do not match up with lion mask carvings, possibly due to alteration or embellishment. Watermarks to top. Sides free from splits. Sliding doors do not operate as they should, appear to fowl on cornice.

CRICKET:- A contemporary cast figure of "W.G. Grace" in his characteristic pose on a square base with integral wooden plinth, by Norman V. Bassant*, London 2019; 5.4" (13.7 cms) high *Norman Bassant has had a long and distinguished career as a quiet, yet eminent silversmith. He was apprenticed to R. E. Stone (1947-1953), where he gained great skill and invaluable experience. He then transrferred to C.J. Vander Ltd., whose principal business was developing in the Middle East. From there he joined Christopher Lawrence to run his workshops in Southend. It was here that Norman made an idiosyncratric table centrepiece for which Lawrence won the coveted Jacques Cartier Memorial Award for. Norman began teaching silversmithing at Medway College, one day a week at first and then set up his own workshop in Kent, where he continued to serve his loyal client base.

Oldmeadow, Lynn, with classical floral engraved decoration to the corners and arch and blued steel hands, with an engraved dial within the arch for strike/silent, the mahogany case having fluted quarter columns with brass stops and cast-brass capitals, with a shaped moulding to the door, the hood having fluted pillars with brass stops and cast-brass capitals and surmounted by a pagoda top with a wood sound fret to the front and three brass ball-and-spire finials, the base with a raised shaped panel, a double plinth and standing on bracket feet, height 234cm including finial. *Biography Thomas Oldmeadow is recorded as working in Lynn (Kings Lynn), Norfolk from circa 1784 until after 1798 holding three policies with the Royal Exchange Insurance. A number of longcase clocks are recorded, all with silvered dials as in this example.
