An unusual ivory group, probably Dieppe, late 19th century carved after the painting by Gainsborough, with Mr and Mrs James Baillie and their four children height 27cm, 10Kin, on cut-cornered rectangular ebonised wood plinth Thomas Gainsborough painted his portrait of the Baillie family of Ealing Grove around 1784. It was bequeathed to the Tate Gallery in 1868 by Alexander Baillie of Naples, presumably a descendant and perhaps one of the children portrayed. James Baillie of Dochfour was MP for Horsham.
