A GOOD 19th CENTURY FULL ARMOUR, deeply etched all over with foliate scrolls and mythical beasts on a black ground, all parts with gadrooned edges. The close helmet of good form, pointed upper & lower visor, with roped edges. The breast with etched 'spread eagle' coat of arms, paired with a plain back plate, the tassets of three lames. The gorget, to which is attached the pauldrons of four lames, with vambraces consisting of upper cannon, winged couters and lower cannons, all with gadrooned decoration. Gauntlets with articulated hands with fingers. The cuisses with gadrooned borders, with winged puleyns. Lower leg defences with articulated pointed toe sabatons. With a two-handed broadsword with double-edged triple fullered blade with man in the moon maker's marks, cross shaped flat quillions, twisted wire grip with ovoid pommel, with a black leather scabbard. Armour 6ft 2in tall plus plinth. Sword 46" long. Mounted on a stand above a wooden plinth.

Some scratches and signs of use to both. The wax study has some small areas which have melted and deteriorated.
Walnut Wellington chest19th Century, fitted with eight drawers standing on a plinth base, 62cm wide x 127cm high x 41cm deepObvious losses to the door/wing which would have been on the front. Locking bars deficient. Evidence of the hinges remain. Some drawers are stiff and stick slightly. Ring and watermarks to the top. Discolouration in places. Overall wear, marks, scratches and scuffs as expected. Consistent with age and use.

Advertising as 'cabinet makers, upholsterers, bed & mattress makers, carpet warehousemen, retailers and antique dealers', by the end of the century the company had acquired other notable firms like James Coulson & Co., Goodall, Lamb, and Heighway, and Robson & Sons, Ltd. Hampton & Sons were themselves bought by Waring & Gillow, but continued to trade under the same name. They specialised in furnishing ships, institutions, and hotels, and included the Cunard liners Queen Elizabeth and Queen Mary as clients, as well as the new Royal Yacht Britannia in 1952. In London they furnished the Dorchester and May Fair Hotels, and farther afield the palaces of Prince Nizam of Hyderabad and the Maharaja of Kashmir.
