Eugene Farcot - French "cherub on a swing" mantel clock c1870, with an alabaster case and drum movement supported by twin scroll supports on a stepped plinth raised on alabaster bun feet, enamel dial with Roman numerals, minute track and steel moon hands, 8-day count wheel striking movement, striking the hours and half-hours on a bell, mounted on an oval padded plinth with an ebonised base and conforming glass dome. Eugene Farcot was a highly respected 19th century Parisian clockmaker who in 1862 invented and patented the ingenious double action escapement with half-moon pallets and twin escape wheels used on this clock.
