A large late Victorian corner wardrobe, fitted with a series of doors, drawers and cupboards and raised on a plinth base. Height 122 cm. CONDITION REPORT: The rear sides of the wardrobe have been cut and shaped to fit a skirting board. There is a small section of edge veneer missing to the top long drawer and two small pieces missing to the bottom drawer. There are some light surface scratches to each side and to the pediment all commensurate with age. The piece is structurally sound.
An early Victorian mahogany breakfront wardrobe, with detachable moulded cornice above a pair of panelled cupboard doors enclosing pullout trays with drawers beneath and flanked on either side by a cupboard door opening to hanging space. Width 230 cm, height 203 cm (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: The upper internal section of the breakfront has four oak lined sliding drawers. The detachable cornice is in very good condition with only very minor marks. The sides are in good order with no significant issues. The centre doors are not significantly warped and close as they should. We have the lock and key. All trays are present. The drawer fronts have old watermarks and the polish is a little dry. The knob handles are original. The left hand door is not warped. The handle has been moved. There is a mark above the lock escutcheon indicating this. The right hand door similarly has had the handle moved. The plinth base has the usual marks and scuffs that one would expect.
A 19th century ebonised and boulle marquetry side cabinet, with caddy top, pair of glazed doors and with adjustable shelves and plinth base. Width 131 cm. CONDITION REPORT: The top is in generally good order. It is not warped and has only minor scratches and marks as one would expect. All brasswork seems to have been stripped and cleaned and has a later lacquer finish. It looks as though there has been some repair to the black and coloured areas in places. This is most evident on the left hand return. The doors are not warped. There are no significant losses to the drawer fronts but the same comments apply as regards the frieze in terms of fairly recent cleaning. The cloth lining to the inside is poorly fixed and requires replacing. The two shelves have recently been cleaned. The plinth base has a loss to the bottom edge at one side approximately 2 cm square. The sides of the cabinet are brass strung and the stringing is intact.
Marcelle Mire (late 19th/early 20th century), bronze and ivory figure of a lady with parasol, raised on a marble plinth, signed and numbered 5095. Height 24 cm (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: Other than being dusty and dirty this lot is in generally very good condition. There are no issues with the metalwork and only very minor scratches to the paintwork but nothing significant. The face is dirty in the reveals. There is a tiny stress fracture just above the left eye and another one on the right cheek. The marble base is nibbled a little around the sharp edges. There are no significant chips however.
Renee-Paul Marquet (1875-1939), a bronze and ivory figure of a Dutch girl with long pigtails and wearing clogs, raised on a marble plinth, signed "Marquet" and stamped 7743. Height 26 cm (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: The figure is in generally good order. There are no hairline cracks to the face. The metalwork is generally in good order. The only minor defect is to the rear two fingers of the left hand. These are partially missing where they grasp the branch. There are minor nibbles to the sharp edges of the marble base but no significant issues.
A George III mahogany breakfront wardrobe, with detachable moulded cornice above a series of cupboards, drawers and dummy drawers, the end cabinets opening full length from the side and all raised on a plinth base. Width 210 cm, depth 67 cm, height 214 cm (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: The detachable cornice is in generally good order with no significant scuffs or marks. The left hand door panels both have old stress fractures which should be visible from our images. The door is not warped and opens as it should. The right hand panel is similarly not warped but also has shrinkage stress fractures to both panels. The crossbanded front door panels are all slightly undulating but not loose in the surrounds. There are old stress fractures to all panels. The right hand door has a warp which runs from the lock escutcheon. By the time this reaches the top of the wardrobe it is approximately 1 cm adrift from the centre. We do not have a key however if the door was actually locked shut the warp would be barely visible. All dummy drawer fronts are in good order. The actual drawers are all in good condition also. There are no losses to the cockbeading. The handles are original. The plinth base has the usual marks and scuffs that one would expect. The centre moulded edge between the top and bottom has a return section of moulding missing to the left hand breakfront. There is further damage at the same point on the right hand corner. There are some veneer losses to the crossbanding on the middle frieze. Our saleroom floor is a little uneven and we have not assembled the wardrobe quite correctly.

The top is flat. All drawer fronts are in generally good order. There are minor veneer nibbles to the runners. The bottom drawer is a little stiff. The sides have old shrinkage splits but not of a problematic nature. The plinth is in generally good order only a little scuffed. The backboards are original. There is no evidence of any woodworm.
A late Victorian walnut secretaire bookcase, with detachable pediment above a pair of glazed doors enclosing adjustable shelves, the base with secretaire drawer above a pair of panelled cupboard doors and raised on a plinth base. Width across cornice 124 cm. CONDITION REPORT: The bookcase is in generally good original condition with only minor defects. The detachable cornice has a small loss to the bottom left hand corner below the foliate carving. There is also a further moulding loss on the right had return right at the back near the wall. The sides of the top are in generally good condition. The right hand side has a small 2 cm timber loss at the bottom edge in the centre. This will have been caused by lifting the top on and off the base. The base itself is in generally good order. There is an old stress fracture to the front top left hand corner of the top. There are numerous old marks also. The secretaire drawer is not warped. It operates as it should. The interior is complete. The leather writing surface is serviceable but scratched and scuffed. The panelled doors beneath have old stress fractures to timber joins. The right hand door has a slight warp at the bottom but in our opinion this is not particularly detrimental. The side panels of the base are in good condition. The plinth has significant veneer loss to the left hand return. The right hand side return is also loose with lifting veneer. We can see no evidence of any woodworm.
An early 19th century oak and mahogany banded longcase clock by Carruthers of Langholm, with two-train striking movement and subsidiary date and second dials, the case raised on bracket feet. CONDITION REPORT: The clock movement is extremely dirty and dusty. The catgut to the going train is now snapped. It weight is applied to the going train the clock does tick. The movement strikes when advanced to the hour. The movement seems to be complete but definitely requires at least a clean if it to run correctly. We have both weights and pendulum. The case is in generally very good condition with no significant faults. Neither door is warped and the feet and plinth are original. The colour of the case is generally good. There will have been some form of pediment between the swans neck necks which is missing.

The sides of the piece are again in good order. There are some scuffs where the top has been lifted on to the base but again these are barely significant. The right hand scrolling corbal is a little loose. The drawer fronts are in generally good condition but there are some losses to the cockbeading, note right hand side drawer 1 and 2. There is also a small nibble to the cockbeading on the third long drawer on the edge below the right hand handle. The plinth is in generally good order. We can see no evidence of any woodworm. The bottom edge has the usual small nibbles and the odd slightly more substantial chip but no serious issues. Having been under glass the clock case gilding is generally very bright and in good general order with little dust. All porcelain panels are in good condition. The dial is in good order. The movement is fully wound. It does not appear to be striking when advanced although the mechanism does click on the hour and half hour. The clock does tick but stops after approximately 30 seconds. The wooden base is scuffed at the corners and along the sharp edges. This is worse at the back right and left hand corners. There are some losses to the gilding. CONDITION REPORT: The hood is in generally good condition with no serious issues. The capitals to the left hand column are both replacements. The bottom capital to the right hand column is a replacement. Both columns which appear to be yew wood are fairly crude and the left hand column has gouges and losses to the back. The door hinges as it should. The seat board is elevated on blocks and therefore the movement and case may not belong. The trunk door is not significantly warped but does not close correctly. It requires a catch. The sides of the trunk are in good order. The base is in generally good condition. The bottom plinth is old but a later addition. The movement does strike when advanced. We have the weight and pendulum and the clock is ticking but not for any great length of time.
