French gilt spelter mantel clock, the case mounted with a horse and rider, circular enamelled dial, cylinder movement striking on a bell, ebonised plinth (lacking glass dome), height overall 41cm.Condition report:Minor chips and crack to dial. Hole to top of dial surround. Chip to oval cartouche above dial. Scratches and rubbing to base. Rubbing to horse. Crack to hind leg. Loss to foliage near that leg. Repair to spear tip. A quality long case Grandfather clock, 11-inch square brass dial with silvered centre, date aperture and engraved fruit basket and signed 'Thos Ranger Chipstead in Kent', framed by a silvered chapter ring with black Roman hours and outer Arabic minutes, the hood with moulded pediment, turned columns and glazed door above a rectangular trunk door, plain base and plinth, with pendulum and weight. Thomas Ranger is recorded as a clockmaker working in Chipstead, Kent, between 1740 and 1770.
