She was one of a new breed of purpose-built warships equipped with gunports to enable artillery broadsides to be fired. She was sunk on 19th July 1545 off Portsmouth during a battle with the French fleet which had attacked the English coast. After many years of excavation, the ship was finally raised from the sea bed in 1982.
