A silver model of a four-masted English Royal galleon the 'Marie Rose' by Alfred James, Francis William & Arthur Walter Pairpoint, London 1920, in full sail with men on deck, cannons and flying pennants, on a four wheel base, 35.5cm (14in) high, 48.5cm (19in) long overall, 1828g (58.75 oz); on a mahogany plinth with title plaque, with an oak carrying case The Mary Rose was launched in 1511 and served as a flagship in King Henry VIII's fleet. She was one of a new breed of purpose-built warships equipped with gunports to enable artillery broadsides to be fired. She was sunk on 19th July 1545 off Portsmouth during a battle with the French fleet which had attacked the English coast. After many years of excavation, the ship was finally raised from the sea bed in 1982.
