The Group 1 Benson & Hedges Gold Cup, inaugurated in 1972 and known today as the Juddmonte International, is the richest race run at York. In a 15 race career, US bred Hawaiian Sound won four other races and was placed in several top-class races including the Derby when he was beaten a head by Shirley Heights.Provenance: from the Lester Piggott Collection.

LARGE ORMOLU AND ENAMEL MANTLE CLOCK, MEDAILLE D’ARGENT, PARIS FRANCE, 1855of square form, the mantle clock rests on ball feet. three white, blue and purple enamel panels featured three cartouches of three different scenes, each panel broken up by pillars with doric design of anthunus leaves and a flower bouquet. the center panel features a quartz gemstone framed scene of a young woman with two putti’s one winged and one on the ground, in a flowered landscape. the panel on the right features a cartouche of the same two putti’s alone, one holding a bow and arrow in a flowered landscape. the left panel cartouche features the same two putti’s but resting on one another with a harp and two doves in a flowered landscape. the overall enamel is of a foliate and floral scroll outlined with gold. the clock numbered in roman numerals with metal hands. the clock face is decorated with a quartz gemstone. the top is adorned with a two-handled urn, on a geometric plinth. the dial mechanism is enclosed by a gold door. stamped on the dial medaille d’argent 1855 and made in paris france, numbered 1185, and 6. each plaque is impressed with number 0.110 on verso; numeral inscription on door. dimensions: 42 x 18 cm (16 1/2 x 7 in.) CONDITIONThe clock is in excellent condition. Overall surface dust. Patina is visible to the naked eye on the front right pillar. Overall tarnish, would benefit from a polish.
