A rare Luba Shankadi maternity figure, Democratic Republic of the Congo, the female figure with elaborate stepped coiffeur and raised on circular plinth, height 40cm, width 16cm, depth 15.5cm. Within Luba art, maternity figures are exceptionally rare in this form, with the majority carved with bowls. There is a comparable figure upon a cup barer in the Museu Carlos Machado in Ponta Delgada in the Azores.
