Lot 1010

An Arts and Crafts inlaid mahogany wardrobe and dressing table to match, brass drop handles with ware turquoise cabochons, the wardrobe with mirrored door flanked by panelled doors opening to hanging space with two drawers beneath. Height 204 cm, width 146 cm, depth 59 cm, dressing table width 104 cm (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: The wardrobe is in generally good condition. The doors are not warped and close as they should. There are no splits to the panels. The mirror is in good order. The drawer fronts are in generally good condition. There are some minor nibbles and scuffs around the drawers as one might expect. All metalwork is present. The plinth has some minor marks and scratches as one would expect but again no significant problems. The side panels are in good condition and not split. The dressing table is also structurally sound. The work surface has numerous old ring marks and scratches as one would expect but no real significant problems. All drawer fronts are in generally good condition with only minor scratches and marks commensurate with age. The side panels and legs are in good order. All castors are present. The mirror plate has some minor blemishes but again no significant issues.

Lot 1020

A large Victorian bookcase, with moulded cornice above a pair of glazed doors and fixed shelves with plinth beneath. Height 216 cm, width 176 cm, depth 40 cm. CONDITION REPORT: The bookcase is structurally sound and in generally good order. The cornice is a little tatty and has numerous small top edge nibbles, minor stress fractures and small timber losses. The glazed doors are not warped. They meet in the middle as they should. The glass is cracked. The brass handle operates and clicks into place as it should. This may not be original. There is a lock escutcheon beneath this but no lock. There are some scratches to the door surrounds as one would probably expect. The left hand side of the cabinet has a repair to the front corner where the bottom door hinge is. A section of timber has been let in at this point. There is a small loss to the plinth moulding to the left hand side of this. The right hand side is in good order. The plinth base is in generally good condition with all the usual minor scuffs and marks. The backboards are original.

Lot 1035

A Regency mahogany breakfront side cabinet, fitted with a drawer and glazed doors flanked by twist turned pilasters and raised on a tall plinth base. Height 102.5 cm, width 144.5 cm, depth 51.5 cm (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: The cabinet is in extremely good condition. The top is a very good colour and has no splits. The crossbanded edge has a small loss to the front right hand side above the frieze drawer. This is +/- 3 cm in length. The doors are not warped. They close as they should. There is no damage to the glass. The drawer and door fronts are all in good order. The sides of the cabinet are in good condition also with no splits or cracks. The plinth base has some minor scuffs and marks as one would expect. There are some very minor veneer nibbles at the extremities also. The backboards are original. There is no evidence of any woodworm.

Height 137 cm, width 181 cm, depth 58 cm. CONDITION REPORT: The sideboard is in generally good condition. The upstand is in good order with no issues. The top is flat with only minor stress fractures to the veneers. The edge moulding is in good order all round as is the frieze. There are no significant splits to the sides of the sideboard. The doors are not warped. They all close as they should. The plinth base is in good condition all round. There is no evidence of any woodworm.

Lot 1059

A Victorian mahogany bookcase in two sections, the top half with moulded cornice above a pair of glazed doors enclosing adjustable shelves. The base fitted with two drawers above a pair of panelled cupboard doors and all raised on a plinth. Height 218 cm, width 120 cm, depth 49 cm (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: The drawer handles are not original. If you look closely you will see pin marks suggesting that at some point the handles probably had a diamond shaped backplate. There are no marks to the polish but the small retaining holes are visible.

A Victorian mahogany sideboard, with rear triangular upstand, frieze drawers and four cupboards all raised on a plinth base. Length 170 cm. CONDITION REPORT: The sideboard is structurally sound. The rear upstand is in good condition. The top has numerous old stress fractures, watermarks and scratches. There are also ring marks and polish deterioration. The drawer fronts all have minor veneer nibbles. The sides of the base are in good condition. The centre door trim has a loss to top and bottom. The lock is missing. The side doors are in generally good condition. Both locks are present but we do not have a key. They are not locked. The plinth base is a little marked and scuffed and has minor veneer nibbles as one would expect. There is no evidence of any woodworm.

Lot 1145

A pair of antique teak columns, with carved capitals, the columns partially green painted and each raised on a stone plinth. Height 225 cm, width across capital 31 cm (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: Both pillars are structurally sound with no loose joints. Please note that both capitals do lift off. Both capitals are in generally good order with no significant losses. There are some stress fractures to the timber. The columns themselves are in generally good order. There is significant paint loss and rubbing and again stress fractures to the timber but no real problematical areas. One column has a timber loss to the bottom left hand rear corner above the stone base. This is the only significant loss. Clearly there are numerous surface scratches, marks and dings as one would expect. The stone bases are again structurally sound but do have numerous nibbles, scuffs and edge losses. These are worst around the bottom edge where there are some significant losses and edge chips. One base does not have any paintwork, the other still has the remains of some present.

Lot 1214

A Victorian mahogany sideboard, with rear upstand and fitted with drawers above four panelled cupboard doors all raised on a plinth. Height 148 cm, width 199 cm, depth 65 cm. CONDITION REPORT: The sideboard is structurally very sound. The upstand is very dirty and dusty within the carving. The right hand side has s missing section of scroll which should be evident on our image. The top is flat with no splits but does have old scratches and small paint spatter marks etc. The moulded edge has small veneer nibbles. The right hand frieze drawer has a moulding loss to the right hand bottom corner. The other drawer fronts are simply dirty. The sides of the piece are dirty and a little marked but are not split. The doors are not warped. They meet in the middle and close correctly. There are no splits of any note to the panels. The interior is a little tatty but all drawers and shelves are present. The plinth base is a little marked and scuffed but has no significant issues.

Lot 1230

A Victorian rosewood bookcase on cupboard, with moulded cornice above a pair of glazed doors flanked on either side by flat pilasters with corbels, the base with two drawers above a pair of panelled cupboard doors all raised on a plinth. eight 205 cm, width 122 cm, depth 43 cm (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: The cornice is in generally good order with a minor nibble to the front left hand top corner. The frieze beneath is in good condition all round. The sides of the top are in good condition. The doors are not warped. They meet in the middle correctly. There is an old repair to the right hand top corner of the door above the hinge and next to the corbel. The hinge has been moved down as you will see from our image. The top of the base has veneer stress fractures to the left hand side and to the left and right hand sides and small veneer nibble losses. There are some surface scratches. The crossbanded edge has some stress fracturing but no significant losses. The frieze drawers are in generally good condition. The base cupboards meet in the centre and are not warped. The plinth base has been repolished and may in fact be a replacement.

Lot 1232

A George III walnut longcase clock with eight day striking movement by Joseph Smith Bristol, dated 1769, with moon phase subsidiary seconds dial and date aperture, flanked by fluted columns with long well figured trunk door and all raised on bracket feet. Height 224 cm, width 46 cm (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: The movement winds on both trains and is currently ticking away and keeping good time. The case is in generally good order. The hood door is not warped. The veneers to the hood front are in good condition. There are some stress fractures to the frieze on the left hand side of the hood. The trunk door is not warped. The veneer colour is generally good. There are some minor old stress fractures and veneer repairs but none of any significance. The base has stress fractures and cracks to both the front and sides but is structurally sound. The plinth and bracket feet are clearly later replacements. The base front panel line inlay does not quite match that of the trunk door. It is likely that the whole of the base is a later replacement.

Lot 1236

A 19th century mahogany breakfront low bookcase, with detachable moulded dentil cornice above a pair of panelled cupboard doors opening to a series of drawers and flanked on either side by open shelves and raised on a plinth base. Height 144 cm, length 258.5 cm, depth 45 cm (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: The top of the bookcase is in generally good with no significant scuffs or damage. The dentil cornice has one block missing on the front left hand corner of the breakfront. The sides of the cabinet are in generally good condition. There is a paint mark to the right hand side. The doors are not warped and meet in the middle as they should. The lock is present. We do not have a key. The left hand lock plate is missing. All interior drawers are present. All locks are present but we have no keys. The shelves have numerous surface scratches and marks. The plinth base has scuffs and marks as one would expect. The bookcase would be better described as Edwardian. It is not 19th century. The shelf depth is 26 cm. the shelves are adjustable.

Lot 1248

A 19th century mahogany inverted breakfront chest of drawers, four drawers with brass handles flanked by columns and raised on a plinth with bun feet. Height 88 cm, width 71 cm, depth 43.5 cm. CONDITION REPORT: The top has numerous old ring and liquid marks. There are also scuffs and scratches and veneer stress fractures. The frieze beneath has a veneer repair to the centre and other veneer losses. The drawer fronts are in generally good condition. Six of the handles have missing brass drops. There are veneer losses to the fronts of the drawer runners. The side pillars are in generally good order. The sides of the chest are also in generally good condition with only minor surface scratches and scuffs. The plinth base is in good order all round with only very minor veneer nibbles. The backboards are original. The feet are in good order. We can see no evidence of any woodworm.

A Victorian mahogany secretaire bookcase, with moulded cornice above a pair of glazed doors, the base with secretaire drawer above a pair of panelled cupboard doors with plinth beneath. Width 107 cm, height 230 cm.

Lot 1276

A Victorian mahogany chest of drawers, with rounded corners above two short and three long graduated drawers with wooden knob handles and raised on short bun feet. Height 113 cm, width 101 cm, depth 48 cm. CONDITION REPORT: The chest is structurally sound. The top is flat with no significant splitting. There are some old water ring marks and polish discolouration. The drawer fronts are all in reasonable condition with only minor liquid marks. The top left hand drawer has a slightly loose section of beading. The first long drawer has a loose knob handle. We have the handle. The sides of the chest have surface marks and scratches as one would expect but no real issues. The plinth base is a little scuffed particularly around the bottom rounded corners. The backboards are original.

Lot 1278

An Edwardian mahogany bedside cabinet, with rear upstand and fitted with two cupboard doors with brass handles and raised on a plinth. Height 86 cm, width 45 cm, depth 46 cm. CONDITION REPORT: The cabinet is structurally sound. The top is not split. There are minor surface marks. Both doors are not warped and close as they should. Opposite the bottom door handle the upright has slight damage caused by the door retaining clip. This is minor. The plinth base is in generally good condition as are the sides and back.

Lot 1293

A Victorian mahogany Scottish chest of drawers, with one serpentine drawer above three further drawers with wooden knob handles and raised on bun feet. Height 109 cm, width 116 cm, depth 52 cm. CONDITION REPORT: The chest is structurally sound and in generally good order. The top is flat with no significant splits or damage. There are numerous old small ring marks and minor scratches but the colour is generally reasonably good as is the polish. The frieze drawers are all in good condition. The right hand side of the chest has a half height open stress fracture +/- 4 cm in from the rear of the chest. The remainder of the side is in good condition. The left hand side has a similar less open stress fracture in the centre of the side panel. The plinth moulding is in good condition all round. All legs are present and original. There are some minor scuffs and marks around the extremities as one would expect. The backboards are original. We can see no evidence of any woodworm.

Lot 1346

A Victorian mahogany open bookcase, with rounded corners and moulded edge above open shelves and plinth base. Height 105 cm, length 159 cm, depth 35 cm. CONDITION REPORT: The bookcase is in generally good order. It is structurally sound. The top is a good colour with no significant blemishes and only minor old scratches and marks. The cornice and frieze are in good condition all round. The adjustable shelf fronts are in good order. The bowed side shelves are all in good condition as is the plinth base. The backboards are original and in good order. We can see no evidence of any woodworm.

Lot 1354

A William IV rosewood bookcase on cupboard, with moulded cornice above shelves and columns, the base with brass grilles to the panelled doors with plinth beneath. Height 148 cm, width 94 cm, depth 46 cm (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: The bookcase is in generally very good condition. The top and bottom may be associated, however the pieces have clearly been together a very long time. The top of the base is fully veneered and polished even in the section underneath the bookcase top. The two pieces have clearly been together a very long time as there is a well defined outline when the top is lifted from the bottom. The top also has a rear lip that fits into the back of the base. The overall condition is really very good and the piece could be used in its current state without the need for any work. There is no evidence of any woodworm. There are no serious scratches, marks or scuffs. There is no significant warping to the doors.

Lot 1423

A large 19th century mahogany breakfront secretaire bookcase, the upper section with four glazed doors enclosing adjustable shelves, the base with panelled cupboard door to either side, the centre section fitted with three drawers with brass drop handles and raised on a plinth base. Height 225 cm, width 250 cm, depth at cornice 47 cm (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: The upper section detaches from the base. The upper section itself splits into three pieces. There is the centre section and the two end sections. The base also separates into three pieces. Between the base and the upper section the dividing shelf (for want of a better word) is in one piece. The bookcase is in the main solid mahogany. This applies to the upper cupboard fronts and sides. We cannot see the edge of the dividing shelf. The base cupboard fronts are solid. The base sides may be veneered. The sections to the left and right hand side of the drawers and between the drawers have a mahogany front but this being due to grain continuation. The drawer linings are oak. The drawer fronts have cockbeaded edges but probably onto solid mahogany. The backboards are pine. Please note that the cornice return moulding on the centre section is missing. It is not possible to see this from the image.

A Victorian Boulle marquetry side cabinet, with glazed doors opening to shelves and all raised on a plinth base. Height 168 cm, width 85 cm, depth 38 cm (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: The top of the cabinet is generally in good order. The frieze beneath has lifting and bubbling to the red areas o the Boulle marquetry. There are some losses also. The brasswork is a little lifting in places also. The left hand side of the cabinet has the top piece of brass stringing detached. We have the piece. The brass stringing around the left hand glazed panel is also lifting in places. The door surrounds are in generally better condition than the frieze but there is some bubbling and some losses to the red areas. There is also some lifting to the brasswork in places. The right hand side top frieze has a section of brasswork detached. We have the piece. All glass panels are in good order and not cracked. The brass moulding around the base is dirty and discoloured. The doors are not warped. We have the lock and key. The top strip of brass on the base is detached. We have this but it is not in good condition. The shelves are in generally good condition. The backboards are original

Lot 1435

A Continental serpentine fronted secretaire chest of drawers, the top three drawers forming the secretaire, the lower drawers actual, with brass mounts and raised on a plinth base. Height 117 cm, width 60 cm, depth 34 cm. CONDITION REPORT: The cabinet is in extremely good condition with no significant issues. There are no lifting veneers and no losses to the woodwork. All metalwork is present. All drawers run smoothly. The plinth is in good order all round. There is no evidence of any woodworm. The piece could be used in its current state without the need for any work.

Lot 1438

An early 20th century oak pedestal desk, with green tooled leather writing surface, three frieze drawers and three further drawers to each pedestal. Height excluding upstand 76 cm, width 138 cm, depth 72 cm (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: The desk is structurally sound. The rear upstand is a later addition. It is mounted on two small brass plates and could easily be removed if required. The green tooled leather writing surface is in good order with only very minor edge nibbles and no significant scratches or scuffs. There are no holes. The outer oak surround has one small watermark to the front right hand corner and a stress fracture running from the right hand edge approximately 2 cm back across to the left for about 13 cm. This is a minor issue. There is no loss but very slight movement. All drawers have their locks. There are no keys. The drawers are not locked. The desk sides are in good order with no issues. The plinth base is in generally good condition with only minor scuffs and small nibbles around the kneehole recess as one would probably expect. Both of the rear pedestal panels have stress fractures and minor scratches. The castors are present beneath each pedestal.

Lot 1451

A Continental marble topped open shelf unit, with brass fittings, canted angles and adjustable shelves and all raised on short feet. Height 106 cm, width 50 cm, depth 32 cm. CONDITION REPORT: The cabinet is structurally sound. The gallery is all present. There is a very small loss to the marble of the rear righthand corner but this is tiny. The sides of the cabinet are in very good condition. There is only one shelf support. They would need manufacturing. The plinth. There are minor scuffs and marks as one would expect. The feet which are original are all in good order. The backboard is in good condition also. Shelf depth 26 cm.

A large Victorian walnut Wellington chest, with moulded edge and rounded corners above a series of frieze drawers with wooden knob handles, Wellington chest action and raised on a plinth base. Height 140 cm, width 77 cm, depth 50 cm (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: The Wellington chest is in generally very good order. The top is flat and of good colour. There are no splits to the sides. The Wellington chest action operates as it should. The lock is however not present. The drawer fronts are in generally good order with only very minor veneer nibbles but no splits. The plinth base also has very minor veneer nibbles and the odd scratch and scuff with no significant issues. The drawers all run smoothly. The drawer interiors have had a paper lining which has deteriorated. The backboards are original. There is no evidence of any woodworm. The colour is uniform and the patina generally very good.

A Victorian mahogany bookcase on cupboard, with moulded cornice above a pair of glazed doors enclosing shelves, the base with drawer above a pair of panelled cupboard doors all raised on a plinth. Height 212 cm, width 107 cm, depth 45 cm (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: The bookcase is structurally sound and in generally good condition. The cornice is in good order all round. The glazed doors are not warped and meet as they should. The glass is not cracked. The sides of the top are in good condition. The top right hand front corner of the base has a small veneer nibble. The left hand corner similarly has small older veneer nibbles. The drawer runs smoothly. The base cupboards are not warped and meet in the middle as they should. The plinth base is in generally good condition. The sides of the base are in good order also. The backboards are original. We can see no evidence of any woodworm. Both locks are present but we do not have a key.

Lot 192

A pair of Masons Mandalay pattern vase form table lamps, each with shade. Height including shade 55 cm. CONDITION REPORT: Both lamps are currently lit in the saleroom. The shades are both serviceable but both have some discolouration, possibly caused by damp. The on/off switches operate as they should. The lamp bases are both in very good order with no damage, no repairs and no restoration. The wooden plinth bases are in good order.

Lot 687

A Parian bust of the King of Prussia, raised on a marble and brass plinth. Height 20 cm. CONDITION REPORT: The brass base and marble column are in generally good order with no issues. The bust itself has had some restoration. There is overpainting around the nose and moustache area. We cannot see what this is actually covering. The overpainting is now a discoloured cream colour. There is further overpainting to both sides, the front corner and right shoulder. There is also some overpainting to the rear. It is difficult to see what this is covering. There has certainly been a break across the front right hand corner. The bust is very dirty. There are black and brown spots, particularly to the left and right of the eyes.

We have both keys and locks. The plinth base has the usual scuffs and marks that one would expect. The backboards are all original.

A large late Victorian/ Edwardian mahogany four pedestal partners type desk, fitted with a series of frieze drawers and with brown leatherette writing surface, each pedestal fitted with three drawers and raised on a plinth. Length 274 cm, width 169 cm (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: The height from the floor to the desk top is 76 cm. the height from the floor to the underside edge of the kneehole is 58.5 cm. The desk is in generally very good condition. It is structurally sound. The leather writing surface is not holed. There are some surface scratches and marks but no significant issues. The mahogany surround has sprung at one corner. There are also some minor edge nibbles and scuffs to the outside edge, probably caused by transportation. The frieze is in good condition all round. All drawers run smoothly. The drawer fronts are in generally good order with only minor nibbles around the extremities and on the drawer liner edges. The pedestal panels are not split. The plinths around each pedestal base have the usual scuffs and marks made by vacuum cleaners etc but no significant issues. One pedestal has a small timber loss which should be evident on our images.
