A George III oak crossbanded mahogany thirty hour longcase clock, the 11¾ inch square painted dial signed `Thomas Benbow, Northwood`, with fruit decorated corner spandrels, inner date aperture within a ring of Roman and Arabic numerals, the hood with cavetto cornice over turned and tapering front corner hood pilasters, above a serpentine arched long trunk door, between plain quarter pilasters, on a single panel box base with later skirting plinth, 207cm high Note: T Benbow is noted in G H Baillie `Watchmakers & Clockmakers of the World` volume I as active circa 1785 also noted in Douglas J Elliott `Shropshire Clock and Watchmakers`, as b.1739-1809 watchmaker, son of John Benbow. Thomas took over and attended the church clock at Prees from his father.
