A William IV oak and hardstone-inlaid marble top centre table the specimen marble top probably early 18th century and comprising interlinked geometric guilloche and cartouche motifs, the oak base with double C-scroll supports incorporating husks and leaf scrolling foliage joined by a turned pole stretcher, raised on plinth base 139cm wide, 77cm high, 66cm deep Note: Italian marble table tops purchased by gentlemen during their Grand Tour were often given a stand later, upon return to Britain. This stand exemplifies the George IV 'French' taste popular at the time and promoted in T.King's, The Modern Style of Cabinet Work Exemplified, 1829. Literature: A.M.
