The model was delivered by April 1922 and Pfeiffer intended the work to be the first of a limited edition by leading contemporary artists for a projected 'Society of Friends of Ceramic Art.' Neither Barlach nor his dealer, Paul Cassirer, were in favour, however, and the idea unfortunately foundered (C.
