A longcase clock, the 28 cm arch square brass dial signed Dunston, Falmouth, with Roman numerals, subsidiary seconds dial and calendar aperture, engraved scrolling foliage and ships, the arch decorated a naval engagement and Britannia, dated 12 April 1782, fitted an eight day movement, in a mahogany case, with a pendulum, two keys and weights, 218 cm high See illustration Condition report Report by RB The profile of the brass arch tracks the profile of the hood arch pretty well, probably originally silvered, the movement is dirty, dusty and covered in cobwebs and has clearly not run for sometime, the hood is generally in good condition, with a couple of teeth missing from the dentil cornice, the case is in generally good condition again, the hinges appear to be original, and the trunk door not warped. The base is good again, although the plinth section is probably later. Overall a very much in a market fresh condition, from a local deceased estate, now requiring some repair/restoration.
A longcase clock, the 27.5 cm square brass dial signed Saml Elford, Sherborne, with Roman numerals and subsidiary calendar aperture fitted a 30 hour movement, in a painted pine case, with pendulum and a weight, 208 cm high Condition report Report by GH The case is chipped and scratched, particularly around the plinth at the base. Also evidence of woodworm. There is a crack to the front panel of the base which is just off centre and extends vertically up to the top of the base. Paint finish is generally worn and aged. Clock face has some scratches and wear. Hands slightly bent. Movement appears complete but dirty and oily. Pendulum attachment appears to be a DIY modification using some old wire. Pendulum is quite bent. Weight present. Overall presents very well in nice patinated condition. In terms of whether the face and case belong together the face appears to fit the case very well in my opinion. They look like they match but there is a good chance that they don't. Charterhouse does not guarantee the working condition of any watches or clocks.
