IMPORTANT GEORGIAN DOLL'S HOUSE, 'THE EVANS BABY HOUSE' 18TH CENTURY, WITH LATER ADAPTATIONS AND CONTENTSmodelled as a three-storeyed Georgian town house, of ochre and red painted pine and other timber, the hinged façade with a three window frontage and cornice embellished by composition mouldings; the basement floor with three nine-pane windows and lathe coursing, the principle floor with treillage moulding and a central recessed portico with fan light and columns flanked by twelve-pane windows; the top floor with three nine-pane windows, the centre window with an arch, flanked and divided by bead moulded roundels; opening to three single-room floors with painted walls and corner fireplaces with faux marble surrounds, with hand-tinted prints to the walls, one to the top floor and six to the main floor; the top floor with an ivory plaque inscribed “Miss Hancock has sent Anne a large old-fashioned baby house which was made for her great grand mother. the caddy top hood with carved giltwood flaming urn finials and repoussé brass fret above a twelve inch silvered dial with Roman numerals, subsidiary seconds dial, date aperture, and twin ringed winding holes, signed on the chapter flanking the VI 'Andrew Broun/ Edinburgh', with crown and cherub spandrels, above a geometric line inlaid and crossbanded trunk door with an oval brass bound lenticle, on a similarly decorated plinth base with bun feet; the month going movement with five wheel trains and turned pillars, anchor escapement, and hourly strike on a bell via a counterwheel46cm wide, 247cm high, 25cm deepFootnote: Note: Edinburgh made clocks that predate 1700 are exceedingly rare. Andrew Broun [or Brown] (circa 1651-1712) was apprenticed to Humphrey Milne on 2nd February 1665. His apprenticeship was recorded thus "The second day of February 1665. The quilk day, Andro Broun, sone lawfull to umquihil Jon Broun, in Lang Newtone, is booked prentice to Umpra Milne, clock maker." Ten years later he officially ended his apprenticeship after demonstrating his skill to a committee of clockmakers and became a freeman of the Hammermen's Incorporation. He then took on several apprentices and journeymen himself throughout his career. He became Captain of the City Guard in 1685 and Master of the Hammermen's Incorporation in 1689.In 1689 and 1690 he was elected boxmaster [treasurer] of the Hammermen's Incorporation and in 1696 he became a Guild brother of Edinburgh. Although recorded as a highly capable maker, he apparently died penniless, with his son applying to the Incorporation for financial assistance on his father's death.John Smith, author of Old Scottish Clockmakers from 1453 to1850, states "In view of the long time he was in business, - thirty-five years - it is remarkable how exceedingly scarce are specimens of his art, only three have come under our notice: one being the splendid clock in the lobby of the advocates library, another that was exposed for sale in the window of a dealer in Queen Street Edinburgh, both these two having cases of beautiful and chaste marquetry; and the third one in possession of a private party in Linlithgow". CHARLES CUMBERWORTH (1811-1852); A GILT-BRONZE PERSONIFICATION OF INNOCENCECast by the C.H. LeBlanc, Late 19th CenturyThe female nude cast with a serpent held to the chest and holding flowers, the base inscribed and stamped to the underside ‘INNOCENCE’ and ‘CH LEBLANC’, 29cm highCondition report: Some rubbing and light tarnishing. Relatively fine casting and finishing to the detail. Lacking plinth base. The Foundry of LeBlanc was the heir to the famous Barbedienne Factory, France. Barbedienne died in 1891, after which Gustave LeBlanc, then M. LeBlanc took over the factory and ceased operation in 1952. LeBlanc is known for its production of small-scale sculptural decorations and objets d'art during the Beaux Art period of the late 19th and early 20th Century.

Including, chipped end to the nose and weathered. Weathered eyes, mouth, beard and nose. Some lichen and discolouration to the marble, especially towards the base and recesses of the drapery. Heavy dirt and marks overall. Some black paint marks. Various fissures.The reverse with roughly carved out back, the central area darkened and discoloured, with the surrounding areas with cleaner looking with a fresher chisel marks. WNAI - AN 18TH-CENTURY ITALIAN MOTHER-OF-PEARL AND PEWTER INLAID EBONISED COMMODEWith three long inverted breakfront drawers on carved bracket feet, 151cm wide; 99cm highCondition report: Shrinkage split running the width of the top. Many losses to the mother of pearl inlay, notably to the central motif of the top, with further leaves missing. Missing elements of inlay in other areas. Numerous pieces of pewter pinging up and missing, mostly to the sides. Worm damage quite extensive in areas, notably the back foot, bottom edge and worm tracks visible to the top. Later timbers used to support plinth and back legs, see images. Losses along the plinth edge and further wear, together with a missing block to the front left top corner of the projecting angle. Handles to the top drawer are later associated. Another below missing a loop pull. Wear , shrinkage and loses to the drawer linings which are lined and painted. WNAI - A PAIR OF MID-19TH CENTURY NAPOLEON III ORMOLU MOUNTED EBONISED AND PIETRA DURA SIDE CABINETS (2)Each with a black slate top over a slate mounted door decorated with fruiting trees with birds, flanked by Bacchic herms, 116cm wide; 53cm deep; 131cm highCondition report: Numerous losses, breaks and damages. Notably, one with a cracked and broken slate top at the front right projecting corner and further cracks to the panelled door.The other cabinet with extensive crack through the slate mounted door. Both with numerous shrinkage splits visible from the inside and further veneer cracks to the side doors. Both with many loose elements of inlay, notably to the sides, see extra images and in other areas. Both with losses to the pietra dura decoration on the doors, one with a section of the tree trunk missing. Both with heavy tarnishing, oxidisation to mounts and dirt and dust. Other general signs of wear and tear, with the inevitable scuffs, scrathes, dents, small chips and marks commensurate with wear, use and age.
