MICHEL COMTE, 56cm wide x 36cm deep x 133cm high, (22in wide x 14in deep x 52in high)Footnotes:Charles-Guillaume Diehl (1811 - 1885), like many cabinet makers who plied their trade in France during both the 18th and 19th centuries, was actually of German origin. However Diehl settled in Paris in 1840 and established a large atelier at 39, rue Saint-Sebastien. He was a professor of artistic anatomy at the École nationale supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris, as well as a member of the Académie Nationale de Médecine (1898).Richer was an assistant to Jean-Martin Charcot at the Salpêtrière, and from 1882 to 1896 was chief of the laboratory at the Salpêtrière Hospital. With Charcot he performed research of hysteria and epilepsy, and also performed studies of medicine and its relationship to art.In 1903, Richer was appointed to the chair of artistic anatomy at the École des Beaux-Arts, and in 1907-08 was president of the Société Française d'Histoire de la Médecine (French Society for the History of Medicine). Some small areas of veneer missing. Lock mechanism is missing to the cupboard door. Some small losses to the carved panels. Plinth base appears to be a replacement or at least stained darker. There is a larger section of veneer coming off and a large chunk missing from one side of the bookcase lower down. Door handle is missing from the door and is currently held with a piece of string. The locking mechanism to the lock plate / hole on the drawer is sat underneath the moulding. Otherwise general wear and tear conducive with age and use. In need of a clean. Lot 1245

An early 19th century oak longcase clock by Blaylock Longtown, with 30 hour movement, with long trunk door and raised on a plinth base. Height 209 cm. CONDITION REPORT: We have the weight and pendulum. We have not had the movement running as the movement does not sit correctly on the clock cheeks. The seatboard is a later replacement and does not fit correctly. The clock and case may well be a marriage. The case itself is in generally good order with no serious issues. The doors are not warped and there are no serious areas of damage. The base plank join is visible due to shrinkage. We can see no evidence of any woodworm.

A late 19th century breakfront bookcase, with a rectangular top with dentil cornice above three sections with adjustable shelves on a plinth base. 181 cm wide, 33 cm deep, 112 cm high (see illustration).

An early 19th century mahogany longcase clock, with three train movement chiming on eight bells and by John Le Roux London, the case with arched hood above a silvered brass dial flanked by columns with long trunk door and raised on a plinth. Height 230 cm.

Lot 868

A Victorian mahogany chest of drawers, with rear upstand and with two short and two long graduated drawers with glass knob handles and with plinth base. Height 94 cm, width 107 cm, depth 53.5 cm. CONDITION REPORT: The chest is structurally sound. The top has one significant ring mark which has removed the polish in that area. There are other minor blemishes. The edge moulding is in good condition all round. All drawers run smoothly. There are some very minor veneer nibbles. All locks are present, we have no keys. The handles would appear to be original. The sides are in generally good condition. The backboards are original. The plinth base is in generally good order all round again with only with very minor veneer nibbles. We can see no evidence of any woodworm.

A Victorian mahogany chest of drawers, four long drawers with wooden knob handles and with rounded corners and with plinth base. Height 103 cm, width 118 cm, depth 56 cm. CONDITION REPORT: The chest of drawers is in generally good condition. The top is flat and of good colour with no splits. There are some very minor old marks and scratches but no real condition problems. The edge moulding is in good condition all round. All drawer fronts are in good order with no missing cockbeading. The handles are original. The sides are in good order and again well figured. The plinth base is in good condition all round and the backboards are original.

Lot 1075

A Victorian mahogany bedside cabinet, with single door with wooden knob handle with shelf to interior and raised on a plinth base. Height 78 cm, width 39 cm, depth 39 cm. CONDITION REPORT: The bedside cabinet is structurally sound and in generally good order. The top has been repolished. For some reason there are two dowelled repairs which are a slightly different colour. The door is not warped and in very good order as are the sides. There are no splits. The rear panel is original. The plinth base is in good condition all round and there is no evidence of any woodworm.

Lot 1252

A Victorian inlaid walnut bedside cabinet, with arched panelled door and plinth base. Height 79 cm, width 38 cm, depth 38 cm. CONDITION REPORT: The cabinet is structurally sound and in generally good order. There are some minor marks to the top surface and very small veneer nibbles but no real issues. The door is not warped and closes as it should. The left-hand side is free from splits. The right-hand side has two splits but no movement. The plinth base is in good condition all round and the backboards are original.

Lot 931

A mahogany reproduction Regency style Egyptian Revival bookcase. Height 79 cm, width 78 cm, depth 27 cm. CONDITION REPORT: The bookcase is in generally very good order with no issues. The top is flat and not split. The sides are in good order as are the pillars and the plinth base. There are no significant marks to the shelved areas.

Lot 1287

A pair of Victorian walnut bedside cupboards, each with moulded edge and rounded corners and with canted angles with corbels and raised on a plinth base. Height 82 cm, width 40 cm, depth 36 cm (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: These cabinets are in first class condition and could be used in their current state without the need for any work. The doors are not warped and there are no splits and no woodworm. There are some minor old ring marks to the top of one cabinet but no real significant issues.

Lot 670

Gaston Rischmann two Cobra Royal pocket watch holders or desk ornaments, Art Deco circa 1920's, both impressed Rischmann Made in France and raised on a marble plinth, each height 17 cm, width 8.5 cm, depth 8.5 cm (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: Both cobras are in structurally very good condition. They are both all over tarnished. We are not sure how much of the original finish is still present. The hood of one cobra has small indentations to both sides as if it has been knocked against another metal object. This should be visible in the image. The only minor issue with each piece is that there are nibbles around the corners and extremities of the marble bases. None of these are large but nearly every corner has a small chip or nibble. There is one more substantial loss to the rear right-hand bottom corner of one base. The signatures are clear and legible on both pieces.

Lot 1202

A Victorian mahogany bookcase, the top with moulded cornice above a pair of glazed doors with adjustable shelves, the base with cupboard doors flanked by half round pillars and raised on a plinth base. Height 210 cm, width at waist 117 cm, depth 46 cm. CONDITION REPORT: The cornice is in good condition all round. The upper doors are not significantly warped. We have the key and the lock operates. The glass is not cracked. The sides of the top are in generally good order with no splits and only very minor veneer nibbles at the bottom edge where it joins the base. The front edge of the shelf has some minor nibbles but no real issues. The sides of the base are in generally good condition with no significant splits and only minor stress fractures to the timber. The right-hand return moulding that follows the moulding beneath the drawer is missing. The base cupboards are not warped and meet in the centre as they should. There are some minor scuffs and marks to the plinth base but no significant problems. The backboards are original.

Lot 1261

A Victorian walnut credenza, well figured with three glazed doors and raised on a plinth base. Height 93 cm, width 134 cm, depth 37 cm (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: The credenza is good quality and in generally very good order. The top is flat with no significant marks or any damage. The glass panes are all in good order as are the corbels and all of the veneer. The base is in generally very good condition with only very minor bottom edge veneer nibbles. The original velvet lining is faded and marked. There is no evidence of any woodworm.

Lot 942

A burr walnut and inlaid low breakfront cabinet, with doors and drawers and raised on a plinth. Height 61.5 cm, width 122 cm, depth 51.5 cm. CONDITION REPORT: This is a modern but good quality piece of furniture. It is in generally extremely good condition with no issues of any note. The top is in generally very good order and is well figured with only minor surface marks and scratches. There are no issues with the sides of the piece or the drawer or cupboard fronts. The door lock is present and we have the key. The plinth is in generally very good condition all round with only minor blemishes as one would probably expect.

Lot 1281

A pair of Victorian walnut bedside cupboards, each modelled as four drawers, with moulded edge and rounded corners and with plinth base. Height 70 cm, width 41 cm, depth 41 cm (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: These cabinets are in first class condition. They have come to us from a local deceased estate. They could be used in their current state without the need for any work. Each has a key and the locks operate. The doors are not warped. The figuring throughout is generally very good. There are no tell tale silhouette outlines of any superstructure on the top of the either cabinet. The edge moulding does not appear to have been tampered with either. The only suggestion that the cabinets may have been part of a dressing table is on the inside edge panel of each pedestal (key side) where there are three filled dowel holes. These are very feint and only visible on close inspection. They do correspond with each other. It may be that they have been altered from a dressing table but the alteration has been done extremely well.

A Victorian mahogany chest of drawers, with moulded edge and rounded corners and with two short and three long graduated drawers with wooden knob handles with moulded drawer fronts and raised on a plinth base. Height 110 cm, width 122 cm, depth 54 cm. CONDITION REPORT: The chest of drawers is structurally sound and in generally good condition. The top is flat with no splits. The edge moulding is in good condition all round. The top right-hand drawer has the right-hand upright moulding missing. All other drawers are in good order and run smoothly. The handles are original. The sides of the piece are in good condition as is the plinth base. The backboards are original.
