SOUTH-EAST COUNTIES LEAGUE TROPHY When the South East Counties League was disbanded in 1998, the then Secretary , Alan Leather offered the trophies back to the FA but was told that they did not want them and that he should keep them. We are now offering these trophies for sale on behalf of the family and this trophy is the South East Counties League Championship trophy with lid and plinth which has a silver band around it detailing all the winners from 1954/55 to 1997/98. The trophy was presented to the South East Counties League by Joseph Mears of Chelsea and it was appropriate that Chelsea were the first winners of it in 1954/55. It was played for by the Under 18 teams of Clubs in the South East and was won multiple times by Chelsea (they won it 8 times out of the first 9 years), Arsenal, Tottenham, QPR , Ipswich, West Ham and Norwich whilst it was won on single occasions by Charlton and Millwall. The trophy and lid are made of silver , made in Sheffield and hallmarked. The trophy is 12 inches high, the lid is approx 6 inches high and the plinth is four inches high. The whole item is approximately 22 inches high. Over the years the exuberance of youth has resulted in the odd very minor knock and the lid is slightly at odds with the top of the trophy but this is an excellent item and was fought for by many well known names from Jimmy Greaves with Chelsea down to Frank Lampard Junior at West Ham. It was awarded to the winning team of the South East Counties League Division 1 Championship. Good
SOUTH EAST COUNTIES LEAGUE CUP. This trophy was presented each year to the winners of the SECL Knock out Cup. Chelsea won the trophy on eight occasions, Arsenal won it on 6 occasions , Spurs won it on 7 occasions plus a share on one occasion with Watford, West Ham also won the trophy 8 times and other winners included Charlton, Ipswich, Millwall, Fulham , QPR, Norwich, Brighton and Luton. The trophy has a CB hallmark and measures approximately 12 inches. The plinth has a band around it with the names of the winning clubs engraved upon it and measures about 3 inches in height. Total height is just over 15 inches. Players were under 18 to be eligible to play for the trophy. Occasional minor knock has taken place but condition is good. Good
SOUTH EAST COUNTIES LEAGUE TROPHY The George Hawes Cup presented to the SECL for the best performance of the Year. Awarded between 1958 and 1997, it was sometimes presented to a player, occasionally to a Club and occasionally to an administrator. Clubs awarded the trophy include West Ham, Tottenham and Bristol Rovers whilst a fair number of less famous names possibly reached the pinnacle of their career by winning this trophy. It is not (as far as we can see) hallmarked but is probably silver, measures approximately 7 inches in height and the plinth is almost 3 inches in height. Comes in a wooden container which is lockable and has the "George Hawes Cup" nameplate on the front of the box which is purpose made for the trophy. Good
