Furniture & Objects - A Victorian cross-banded, boxwood strung and parcel gilt mounted burr walnut Chiffonier by Gillows of Lancaster, circa 1860-70, the rear superstructure formed as twin shelves supported by scrolling fretted brackets surmounted with a pierced brass gallery, the lower section with canted corner rectangular top with ribbon tied fruiting laurel and ovolo and foliate moulded border edges above twin glazed rectangular panelled doors, the canted corner blocks with applied rectangular florette small mounts above scrolling putto terms with interlaced foliate terminals and corresponding inverted foliate strapwork bracket mounts, raised on a plinth base, the top of the right door stamped `GILLOW`," 143cm high, 131.5cm wide, 43.5 deep Condition: Generally in good condition with some minor scratches, scuffs and knocks to the surface veneers of the piece and with some small dents to the top of the cabinet commensurate with age. A well engineered model of a Centaur 60cc petrol stationary engine, built to the Edgar T Westbury design with water cooled single cylinder 1in bore by 13/4in stroke, balanced open crank, bevel gear linkage to side rod operating inlet and exhaust valves, enclosed speed governor, carburettor, spark plug and 7in spoked flywheel, the engine painted black with polished brightwork and mounted on a mahogany plinth containing electrical components to facilitate battery ignition-powered operation, the plinth 41cm x 35cm, overall 36cm high
An exhibition quality model of a Clarkson beam engine, built by the late Mr L.O.Gibbs of Hailsham, East Sussex with outside steam valve, displacement oiler, single cylinder with draincocks, steam control valve linked to ‘Watts type’ speed governor, parallel action to beam and beam operated water pump, eccentric rod linkage to steam valve, reeded architectural support to beam with split bearings, spoked flywheel with fitted drive pulleys driving small generator producing power to two street lamps. Fitted steps to side. The model is finished in green and red paintwork with polished brightwork and mounted on scaled brickwork plinth and mahogany base. The engine comes together with a gas fired ‘Heritage Models’ horizontal boiler No 2H1051 having fitted sight-glass, pressure gauge, safety valve and gas tank on wooden plinth.
