Robert Mouseman Thompson (1876-1955): An English Oak Panelled Partners' Desk, circa 1932, dowelled two plank top with carved mouse tails to each corner, plinth base, above two sets of three graduating drawers with tooled knob handles and two cupboards each with an adjustable shelf, butterfly hinges and straight head screws, with recessed carved mouse trademark, 152cm wide (5ft) 84cm deep, 72.5cm high The desk and chair were gifted by the American Paul Herrick Kelly (7th June 1881-19th December 1964) to his eldest son Captain Philip Paul Kelly (9th April 1906-18th March 1943) on the occasion of his marriage to Mary Haselwood Porter (18th June 1908-2001) on the 9th April 1932, Edmonton.They had one son together, Michael P Kelly (2nd June 1934-2008).In the 1939 register they are living at 50 Park View Road, Ealing.Captain Philip Paul Kelly attended Ampleforth college 1919-1923.He was mentioned in despatches, he was in the 2nd Bn Durham Light Infantry (50242) and died in Myanmar, buried at Tankkyan War cemetery, Myanmar. The top has ring/water/splash marks, surface wear, natural grain split and gap in the two planks. Missing one shelf clip in cupboard. Missing some fixing blocks under the top centre section. There is later ply behind the drawers, probably to stop them going to far in. Bottom right drawer has teeth marks! probably a dog. Wear consistant with age and being used.

George Pickard (1929-1993) Broken Bowl Metal on a wooden base, 60cm high (including base) Metal with general wear and surface scratches. The worst are scratches to the reverse and a contact wear patch to the underside. Minor rim dents, possibly by design?There is a loose weight housed, this does shift when the sculpture is moved affecting where the sculpture balances.Surface pitting and patina, most likely by design.The plinth is reclaimed timber. Has filled joints, natural splits and minor chips, knocks and losses.

All surrounded by thick swirling clouds and framed by a beaded band and petal border.Provenance: From a notable German private collection, assembled in the 1970s and 80s and partly acquired from Schoettle Ostasiatika. Condition: Good condition with old wear, expected age cracks, small nicks, light scratches, small losses, remnants of pigment on the back, extensive wear to gilt. A VERY LARGE ‘ROBIN’S EGG’ ENAMELED AND GILT PORCELAIN FIGURE OF AMITAYUS, QIANLONG TO JIAQING PERIOD 乾隆至嘉慶時期爐鈞釉描金無量壽佛坐蓮像Please note this Lot is to be sold at No Reserve. 本拍品不設底價China, 1736-1820. Heavily potted, seated in dhyanasana on a cloth draped over a rectangular plinth with a shaped recessed gilt panel above a dragon emerging from crashing waves. His hands are lowered in dhyana mudra and holding an alms bowl. He is wearing long flowing robes opening at the chest adorned with a beaded jeweled necklace. His serene face with heavy-lidded eyes, gently arched brows, a circular urna, and bow-shaped lips. His hair elegantly falling in tresses over the shoulders and piled up into a topknot surmounted by a jewel behind the foliate tiara. The cloth, base, robe, hair, and jewels enameled in robin’s egg with details picked out in turquoise and blue. The face, torso, hands, feet, tiara, and dragon gilt. Provenance: From an old German private collection, acquired in the 1970s and 80s. Thence by descent. Condition: As expected, the tips of the tiara, topknot, fingers, earrings and dragon’s horns are restored to perfection. Further with glaze recesses, flaking and abrasions. Microscopic remnants of pigment which indicate that the figure was painted at some stage. Gilt porcelain figures of such a large size are usually restored to a much wider extent, due to their fragility, and it is therefore exceedingly rare to find one in such a well-preserved state overall.Weight: 5,156 g Dimensions: Height 43.5 cmExpert’s note: Gilt porcelain figures of bodhisattva were produced from the Qianlong period onwards. A RARE AND MASSIVE TURQUOISE-GLAZED FIGURE OF A BUDDHIST LION, QING DYNASTY 清代綠松石色釉坐獅Please note this Lot is to be sold at No Reserve. 本拍品不設底價Expert’s note: This turquoise Buddhist lion belongs to a specially commissioned statuary group that served as guardians and was most likely made for an important temple. Few related sculptures of such massive proportions have survived, making the present lot exceedingly rare.China, c. 17th-18th century. Superbly modeled in two separate parts, figure and base. The beast propping its front legs up on a brocade ball, looking straight ahead with alert expression, dark pupils, the mouth agape revealing teeth and sharp fangs, its face further detailed with neatly incised whiskers and spiked hairs around the mouth and brows, below three spiral horns to the forehead flanked by floppy ears. The finely incised mane and the front legs with similarly modeled spikes and neatly stippled, its long bushy tail sinuously curling upward. The lion wears a collar with floral medallions suspending bells and tassels. (2)Provenance: French trade. Acquired from an estate in Lyon. Condition: Expected ancient wear and manufacturing irregularities, such as glaze recesses, glaze flaking, and firing cracks. Shallow surface scratches, small losses, and minor old repairs.
