A Victorian pine and fruitwood collector's chest, containing ten narrow glazed drawers, enclosed by locking stiles, on a plinth base, with key49w x 31d x 69h cmOverall is complete and usable. Drawers run ok. Glazed tops are intact. Locking stiles work and one has a lock with key. Quite heavily worn around all sides, most noticably on the top and plinth base. Looks like it may have contained Victorian insects, but these have mostly been taken out or perished to remnants, but with some old labels still visible inside the drawers. Removed from a house clearance, so unrestored. It would benefit from cleaning, waxing drawer runners and polishing, without the need for any structural repairs.

Contained in very good original box, with plinth and inner packing bubble with only minor age related wear. A scarce find in any condition.

Ausst.-Kat., Verlag Domäne Dahlem, Berlin 1992, S. 14. - Nach dem Studium in Dresden und Berlin bei Prof. W. Arnold und Prof. H. Drake war Jo Jastram seit 1956 als freischaffender Bildhauer zunächst in Rostock tätig. Ab 1973 lebte und arbeitete er in Kneese, 1980-1986 hatte er die Professur für Plastik an der Kunsthochschule Berlin-Weißensee inne. Der Bildhauer wurde mehrmals mit dem Kunstpreis der DDR ausgezeichnet. Sein Werk umfasst neben figürlichen vor allem Tierdarstellungen. Hierzu sagte der Künstler 1992: "Weil ich so denke und fühle, sind meine Tiere eben so - sie sollen Tier bleiben und zugleich Zeichen sein für unsere Befindlichkeit hier und heute."
