Ballater - a Scottish provincial silver mounted smoky quartz specimen William Robb, marked ROBB, BLTR, formed as a large specimen of smoky quarts in rough state with one polished side, set onto a wooden plinth and bound by a silver band with inscription, together with a framed pair of photographs titled `top of Loch na Gar, August 11 188, Height 3786 Ft` Notes: The engraved band in two sections reads `Oak from ancient drawbridge/ Loch Kinord`, "Loch-Na-Gar 3786 Ft 11 Augt 1898"` . This piece represents a tangible and poignant memento of the Victorian love affair with the Ballater and Royal Deeside area and the outdoor sports it readily provided.
Ballater - a pair of novelty Scottish provincial crusie oil lamps William Robb , marked ROBB / BALLATER (twice), formed in the antique style as a pair of miniature crusie oil lamps suspended from silver mounting bracket raised on a simple wooden plinth 6cm high (including stand) Notes: This unusual survival is not just remarkable for it`s size and fragility but because of it`s rarity. It is recorded in the Edinburgh Assay Office that 12 pairs of lamps were sent for assay in a single parcel and therefore it must be considered that this constitutes only six sets. One other set is known but is lacking the suspender and stand.
