Will Spankie (b.1967)A Purbeck marble, Welsh slate and oak birdbath in the manner of Noguchi40cm high, 40cm wide, 15cm deep (including plinth) Will Spankie has been making stone sculpture and letter cutting for over 20 years near Ditchling, Sussex. He makes sculpture, seating, birdbaths and lettering for memorials to commission and for exhibitions. Spankie works predominantly in local Jurassic limestones which can withstand English winters, are lovely to carve and have their own innate beauty. His work is inspired by the forms, patterns and symmetries found in nature, capturing the ambiguity and ephemeral nature of life in the permanence of carved stone. He works collaboratively with people to help them realise their own projects and ideas, be they for public art commissions, or for garden designers and clients on a more domestic scale for gardens and interiors.
Bronzed Desk Statue of a WW1 German Soldier, fine example showing a German soldier in full combat uniform and wearing a steel helmet, which would indicate the item dates from 1916-1918. Figure shows the man standing on ground holding his rifle. Mounted onto a polished marble plinth. Artist signed to the reverse ‘Hans Leuner’. Stands 38cms. Figure appears to be bronzed spelter.
c1950s 'Farometer' TAXI METER by Bell Punch Co Ltd. A clockwork/electro-mechanical meter with clockwork winding handle on the reverse. In working order, mounted on a display plinth, inside which is a small electric motor, powered by 2 x 9V batteries, which drives the mechanical mechanism. The side handle sets 'For Hire', 'Hired' and 'Stopped'. Selecting 'For Hire' starts the fare at 2/6d and the machine ticks. Pressing the button on the plinth mimics the driving distance and increases the fare in 4d steps. Stands 14" (36cm) high. Hours of fun! [1]
