Chips, cracks, imperfections and possible sympathetic repair to marble - a similar example sold recently (Dreweatts 10/12/2020 lot 827) has an almost identical plinth, which bears similar flaws, suggesting that the marble may have been repaired or stabilised at the time of manufacture. This is corroborated by the fact that the bronze and marble appear to have been together for a long time.

A TROOPER OF POPHAM'S HORSE, the 19inches high, including base, handmade resin sculpture complete with buff leather coat and full compliment of accessories, mounted on a wooden plinth, signed Roy Gregory 1995 to the underside. T. Arber-CookeCONDITION: Provenance - Alfred Theodore Arber-Cooke (c.1905-1993); thence by family descent. Arber-Cooke was an antiquarian and avid collector of Asian works of art, and antiquities principally collecting from the 1930s to the 1970s. He amassed a good reference library on Chinese & Asian coins and wrote on several occasions (1969-70) to to the academic F.A. Turk regarding the study of coin amulets and other non-currency coinages of China. A number of the Asian numismatic reference books will be offered in our 29th March sale.Arber-Cooke initially lived in Wimbledon, Greater London and was involved with the Surrey Archaeological Society. He wrote the book 'Old Wimbledon', with a foreword the MP Sir Arthur Fell, published in 1927. He later moved to Llandovery in Carmarthenshire, Wales, again involved with local archaeology and wrote the History of Llandovery, published in 1975.

A George III mahogany kneehole desk, with plain rectangular top and nine drawers, fitted knob handles, on plinth feet, W.4ft 8in. D.2ft 2in. H.2ft 7in.CONDITION: Overall of a plain mid brown tone and fair state of polish, looks to date to the early part of the 19th century, knob handles look a little small and may well be later replacement for something once a little larger, drawers fitted with original locks but no key present, the top is lighter in tone than the rest of the body which has a little more red to the colour.
A Regency ormolu mounted rosewood breakfront side cabinet, with grey marble top and two central ormolu framed silk pleated panelled doors enclosing two shelves, flanked by open shelves and all supported by gilt gesso ionic columns, on plinth foot, W.5ft 9in. D.1ft 6in. H.3ft 2in.CONDITION: Top in very good condition, one or two very minor flaws, probably is a later replacement as it overhangs the front when pushed in line with the back, this has probably been done to overhang a skirting board or similar, main body of the piece of good rich colour just a little faded at the foot, columns with some minor flaws and scuffing and having an attractive matted finish, ormolu mounts of good quality and crisp casting, comes with what looks to the original lock with working key, interior a little mouldy but still with original timbered finish, minor scuffs and dents to the plinth.
A pair of William IV parcel gilt cream painted and rosewood console tables, with later marble tops and brass grilled back panels, acanthus scroll legs and plinth feet, W.2ft 6in. D.1ft 6.5in. H.2ft 11.5in.CONDITION: Both later tops a little scuffed and scratched with some old resin in fills, paintwork looks later but the matted gilding to the main legs looks original albeit a little rubbed with some flaking, minor chips and dents to the scrolls, brass grilled back panels look later, rosewood plinth feet, one slightly darker than the other and with cracks running across it, both scuffed with rubbing to the gilding.
A pair of William IV parcel gilt rosewood console tables, with pierced brass anthemion galleries, single shelf mirrored backs with stylised foliate column supports, on ornate acanthus scroll legs and plinth feet, W.8ft 2in. D.1ft 4in. H.4ft 4in.CONDITION: Both in good condition, rosewood of good rich colour with scattered fine old scuffs, small dents and scratches commensurate with age, brass galleries with one or two small losses, and signs of once having been gilt, mirror backs with oxidisation spots, more pronounced on one than the other, light rubbing to the gilding at the friezes and similarly worn and rubbed on the scroll supports, scuffing to the plinths commensurate with use.
A Victorian figured walnut and marquetry side cabinet, with inlaid frieze and two panelled doors flanked by serpentine glazed doors, on plinth foot, W.6ft 6in. D.1ft 5in. H.3ft 6in.CONDITION: Overall in good condition with a good rich dark toffee brown colour, faded somewhat lighter to the front of the doors but not bleached, ormolu mounts look to have the original gilding although now a little rubbed from polishing, central door has the original lock and working key, enclosing two original velvet lined fixed shelves, ormolu mount to the left side central door has sprung a little loose, glazed doors enclosed three fixed shelves which were once claret velvet but have now faded to brown, slight scuffing where the doors rub against the top of the plinth but overall good condition.
A pair of 19th century French ormolu mounted walnut pier cabinets, inset with pietra dura and porcelain plaques, the inverse breakfronts with pietra dura floral plaques set to the frieze and the panelled doors inset with Sevres style porcelain plaques decorated with a nobleman and woman, W.2ft 11in. D.1ft 4in. H.3ft 7in.CONDITION: Both look to have been restored in the past 10 or 20 years and now showing some signs of use, cabinet with the lady to the front has very slight bowing at the top and some short cracks running in the veneer at the top, escutcheon plate is wobbly, comes with key but it does not fully work the lock, one section of foliate ormolu banding is loose from the left side of the door, signs of old restorations to the brass stringing around the door, scuffing where the door rubs against the plinth, cabinet with man to the door, overall similar condition but all ormolu attached, some scuffing and discolouration in the varnish around the lower portion of the door, overall both in fair to good condition.
A 19th century French ormolu mounted, walnut and marquetry Meuble d'appoint, with purple and red veined marble top and single door with central inlaid urn and scrolls, on plinth foot, W.2ft 11in. D.1ft 5in. H.3ft 3.5in.CONDITION: Marble top is certainly later but remains in good order, overall colour is of a mid gingerish brown tone with some faded areas, one or two small retouched dents and knocks around the frieze, a vertical split has been repaired down the right side of the panel of the door but still shows as a different colour, key has working lock, two adjustable shelves to the interior, small damages and scuffing around the plinth.
Henry Jacobs. An Art Nouveau gilt bronze bust of a medieval maiden, signed, height 14in., on associated marble plinthCONDITION: Looks to have the original golden to greenish brown patination which is slightly rubbed and a little dirty, tip of her nose is dented, signed near the right shoulder, surface scuffing to the back, impressed initials to the lower back, comes with a marble plinth which is too small for the bust, width of bust 16in, plinth width 12.5in depth 8.5in., plinth rather scuffed.
Sir Joseph Edgar Boehm (1834-1890. A bronze figure of a Grenadier, signed J.E.BOEHM. SCR. and inscribed ‘GRENADIER, 1st GUARDS’, height 13.25in.CONDITION: Overall of a dull blackish brown tone but rubbed through to a lighter colour at the extremities, looks like the figure has been dropped at some point and there is a break running just above the knee of his right leg and further fracture through the rifle just above the lock, otherwise he leans slightly to the left, with loose joints to the plinth.
A Ralph Wood type group of a widow of Zarepeth with oil and barrel, c.1790-1810, on a titled square plinth, 27.5cm highCONDITION: Fine crazing to the glaze all over. Typical minor glaze imperfections, some losses to the leaves on the bocage behind and some slight flaking to the green enamels, there is restoration to the faggots in the right hand of the female figure and some small losses to the faggots below the left hand of the child, otherwise in good condition with no cracks or chips detected.Provenance: Leonard Russell Collection of Pearlware Pottery
A Staffordshire pearlware group of a Dandy and Dandizette, c.1820, standing before rockwork on a black outlined rectangular plinth base, 21cm highCONDITION: Fine crazing to the glaze all over, some small flakes to the gentleman's brown jacket. The feather to the centre top of the lady's hat is missing, some slight wear to the black enamels on his top hat and her left foot and on the corner of the adjoining part of the base, otherwise in good condition with no cracks detected.Provenance: Leonard Russell Collection of Pearlware Pottery
