JASON & THE ARGONAUTS (1963) - Ray Harryhausen Hand-Drawn Concept of Talos Awakening A hand-drawn concept sketch c. 1961 showing the bronze statue Talos from the Don Chaffey fantasy-adventure Jason and the Argonauts. This image was created by legendary visual effects artist Ray Harryhausen and depicts one of the most famous sequences from the film – the giant bronze statue Talos, rising up from its plinth after Hercules (Nigel Green) steals from the treasure chamber below. The sketch is executed in pencil on paper, with a black ink border. The artwork displays some minor wear, including two small tears to the edges. Rare early 19th century pine and grained apothecary chest, having an arrangement of twenty-three graduated drawers, each with gilt and penwork titles - including Mustard, Pond Lilley, Scullcap, Unicorn, etc, some with trade labels inside for W. Allenbrook, Medical Botanist, 17 New Street, Burton-on-Trent, on plinth base, 91cm wide x 27cm deep x 125cm high CONDITION REPORT No back boards present- although no indication that there was one. The base has been cut to accomodate a skirting board- possibly constructed to accommodate. General deterioration, distressing to all surfaces, handles appear to be original. Unclear if this was once more substantial. Sides and top are largely unfinished but stained consistently- dovetailed together
