A GEORGE II/III MAHOGANY EIGHT-DAY LONGCASE CLOCKTHE DIAL WITH A SIGNATURE FOR RICHARD PECKOVER, LONDON, MID TO LATE 18th CENTURYThe four finned pillar rack and bell striking movement with anchor escapement regulated by seconds pendulum, the 12 inch brass dial with subsidiary seconds dial and calendar aperture to the matted centre within applied silvered Roman numeral chapter ring with diamond lozenge half hour markers and Arabic five minutes to outer track, with scroll-pierced steel hands and twin-bird-and-urn cast spandrels to angles beneath added arch applied with a domed engraved silvered boss engraved Richard Peckover, London flanked by dolphin cast mounts, in a solid heavy mahogany case with concave-sided 'pagoda' superstructure fronted with a shaped foliate pierced fret over moulded break-arch cornice and hinged glazed dial aperture applied with three-quarter columns to angles, the sides with rectangular glazed windows and conforming quarter columns set against bargeboards at the rear, the trunk with break-arch door applied with complex edge mouldings over a plain plinth base with ogee top mouldings.229cm (90.25ins) high, 48cm (19ins) wide, 24cm (9.5ins) deep. Richard Peckover is recorded in Baillie, G.H. Watchmakers & Clockmakers of the World as working first in 'Change Alley' in 1735 and then Royal Exchange in 1751 until around 1754. He is believed to have taken-on Quare and Horseman's business in 1733. Condition Report: Movement is complete and in working condition with no visible alteration to the mechanism, it is however a little dirty/neglected hence a clean and overhaul is advised. The dial has an 'added arch' suggesting that it originally was a square dial clock and later converted to arch dial. Bearing this in mind we cannot offer any assurances that it is by Peckover. The dial is a little dirty/tarnished but undamaged. The case has veneer patch repairs to the around the fretwork aperture to the superstructure - the curved top moulding has also been replaced with a simple curved strip (rather than the original cavetto profile). The base is lacking a skirt otherwise case is in sound condition with faults limited to relatively minor bumps and scuffs.Clock has two weights, winder, pendulum and a case key.Condition Report Disclaimer

These are modern and show signs of use from domestic positioning- some edge wear and chips The top of one socle has some losses and the join for the vase element does not appear 'clean' this may well benefit from some remidial work to secureBeing travetine there are some open areas to the stone as well as some old filler to some larger old recesses, some natural flaws and inclusions to stonePlease note these have never been built whilst at Dreweatts, they were as seen in the online photograph, the plinth bases are present and look able to secure the other elements above There are additional scrapes, small losses and marks from collection/movement of the items- which are very heavy. FRANÇOIS ÉMILE POPINEAU (1887-1951), AN ART DECO BRONZED TERRACOTTA FIGURE OF A BATHING FEMALE NUDE FRENCH, CIRCA 1925 Signed E. Popineau to cast 49.5cm high François Émile Popineau (1887-1951) was a member of the artist group 'La Stele' that was founded in the 1920s by the Éditeur d'Art, Arthur Goldscheider. Popineau received a number of commissions for national war memorials, before developing a specialty in the study of female sculpture and fountain decoration - most notably in Bourges and Bagnères-de-Bigorre. He was awarded a gold medal at the Exposition Internationale des Arts Décoratifs in 1935 and the Prix Puvis de Chavannes for 'La Baigneuse' in 1937. The plinth has potential dents or natural imperfections of the wood.
Walnut chest of drawersAesthetic movement, two over three graduated drawers, with brass handles, on a plinth base, unmarked, 107cm wide x 107cm high x 53cm deep Overall wear, marks, scratches and signs of age. Tarnish and discolouration to the brass metal mounts. Some of the drawer linings have small splits. Drawers run smoothly. Scuffs to the base. Good even colour throughout.
