A mid 19th century ormolu and porcelain mounted mantel clock, the 8 day movement striking on a bell, stamped 'Japy Freres & Cie, 2537, 232, MF & F,' the dial painted a cherub, above a panel of figures with a bird cage, flanked by knoped columns, the urn surmount with an oval portrait, 19.5in (49.5cm) h, pendulum and winding key, on an oblong plinth and under a glass dome, repaired, and a pair of lidded vases with goat mask ring handles and giltwood plinths, 13.25in (33.5cm) h. (3) This lot was a wedding present to Mrs Myers (nee Pickering) from Baron Schroeder, owner of the bank, October 1871.
A Pendule Portative by Paul Garnier, with a two-plane escapement and striking on a bell, with outside countwheel, stamped 'P.G Brevete, 146, Guyerdet Aine, Paris,' with a silvered 3.5in dial, numerals worn, blued steel hand and a regulation dial above, on an ebonised and boxwood shaped base and circular plinth with a locking glass dome, 9in (23cm) h. Mid 19th century. Paul Garnier (1801-1869) was the founder of the semi mass production of carriage clocks. The above lot is a more stylish example of the brass cased carriage clock and though not entirely suitable for travelling, examples are known with travelling cases.
Scratch built to professional standards, Demonstration Model of a North Western Railway (Liverpool and Manchester) 4-2-2 single driver, locomotive on display track. Loco is mounted with driving wheels proud of the track and with mains electric to drive cylinder-connecting rod and eccentric gears to demonstrate the valve gear, with brass plaques inscribed Cramptons patent, Bury, Curtis and Kennedy Engineers, Liverpool No. 355, loco named 'Liverpool' and mounted on fine polished wood double plinth base. Track gauge 5 inches, base dimensions 140cm x 35cm, very fine engineering (Illus.)
A superb example of a York-Bolton mill engine and steam plant. A rare model, build No. 104 from Historic Steam Models, believed designed by Maxwell Hemmens. Whole unit has never been fired or steamed, only used as a static exhibit. Housed on an oak plinth 42x40x44cm, with acrylic cover. Detail is excellent, comes with user instruction books, letters, bulletin update, safety instructions an boiler test certificate. Precision engineering at its best and exhibition quality (Illus.)
