A REGENCY BLUE JOHN TAZZACIRCA 1820The circular top with flared rim above the waisted circular tapering socle, on an Ashford black marble plinth11cm high overall, 18.5cm diameter Many Blue John items are held in the collection at Chatsworth House, Derbyshire due to its proximity with the source of Blue John at Blue John Cavern and Treak Cliff Cavern at Castleton. The Chatsworth Tazza, located in the Dining Room, is one of the largest Blue John pieces ever made and bears a close resemblance in form to the smaller tazza offered here.Condition Report: Various old neatly repaired cracks through the bowl and stem - see images. A NAPOLEON III RED JASPER, BRONZE AND ORMOLU TAZZA IN THE MANNER OF FRANCOIS LINKE, MID 19TH CENTURYThe circular dished top on gilt and patinated cherub stem support, stepped base with laurel leaf banding 35cm diameter, 34cm highCondition Report: Minor scuffing, scratches and wear overall consistent with age.Crack, possibly repaired across bowl.The revolving top and plinth with minor rim edge chips evident by touch more than eye.The gilt bronze mount to the bowl with a slightly irregular gap and some chips to the surrounding marble, one larger chip to the base by an outset section. Some red filler to small chips to the underside of the bowl and the plinth.Wear to the gilt bronze nozzle where the fitting has rubbed.The gilt bronze mount to the bowl drilled with three fixing holes.Some lightening to the patination including to the edges of the drapery.A knock to the right arm of one figure.Some small blackened markings to the gilt bronze, some minor rubbing to to the edges of the angular gilt metal mounts.The stepped base with a small gap to one area so that the gilt metal and marble do not sit snugly.All this being said these details of condition are only apparent on very close inspection. A VENETIAN CARVED PINE AND FRUITWOOD DEVIL FIGURE ON A PLINTH, ATTRIBUTED TO FRANCESCO TOSO (D.1893)LATE 19TH/EARLY 20TH CENTURYIn the form of a faun with 'S' shape posture, the detailed carving including the lace cravat, lapels, pockets, buttons, on a canted rectangular stepped plinth 169cm high Murano born Francesco Toso was born into a glass making family. He set up on his own making mirrors and ebonised sculptures with this distinctive style of carving and hues of wood. Toso's work was acclaimed at the 1893 World's Fair in Chicago, where Toso suddenly died. Toso's other carved sculptures included gondoliers and Punchinellos. See lot 212 of Woolley and Wallis' auction on 21 October 2020 for a pair of similar figures. A George II walnut longcase clock, 30cm square brass dial inscribed John Richars (sic), Wisbech, silvered chapter ring, Roman and subsidiary Arabic numerals, the spandrels cast and applied with masks and scrolling foliage, the case with moulded outswept pediment, the glazed door flanked by cylindrical columns, rectangular door to waist, plinth base, 210cm high, 47.5cm wide, 25.5cm deep, c.1740John Richards was born in 1701 to Valerian Richards of Smithfield, butcher, and was apprenticed to Thomas Loftus of Wisbech (died 1732) 1st March 1715, and set up in business there that year after a period of working with his former master.
