Moses Evans, Llanddoget, an oak longcase clock: the eight-day duration movement striking the hours and half-hours on a bell, the thirteen-inch square brass dial having a raised chapter ring engraved with black Roman numerals and Arabic outer five-minute numerals, the centre having a subsidiary seconds dial, a date aperture and an applied cartouche signed for the maker Moses Evans, Llanddoget, with cast-brass female-head spandrels and decorative steel hands, the oak case having a swan-neck pediment with brass ball-and-spire finials to the sides and a brass eagle finial to the centre, with turned pillars to the hood, and quarter columns to the trunk, the base with a raised plinth, canted corners and standing on bracket feet, height 223cm including finial. * Biography - Moses Evans is recorded as working in Llanddoget, Wales from circa 1780 until 1819.
George Margetts, London, a mahogany longcase clock: the eight-day duration, five-pillar movement striking the hours on a bell, the twelve-inch silvered break-arch dial engraved with black Roman numerals, Arabic five-minute outer numerals, decoration to the four corners and a basket of flowers to the arch, the dial centre with subsidiary dials for seconds and date and signed for the maker Geo. Margetts, London, having a mahogany case, the base with a raised panel and double plinth, the trunk having fluted pillars with brass stops to the lower third and a break-arch moulding to the door, the hood with brass Corinthian capitals to the fluted pillars, with the break-arch top having brass ball-and-spire finials to the sides and a brass eagle finial to the centre, height: 222cm, not including finial. * Biography - George Margetts was a well-known maker being free of the Clockmakers Company in 1779 and a Liveryman from 1799 until 1808.
