The drum case with eagle surmount, it's head lowered and wings raised, flanked by a pair of recumbent lions each holding a ball and with doleful expressions, upon a plinth base, 25.5cm high x 34cm wideWilliam Payne worked from 163 New Bond Street, he is recorded as working from 1828 to 1851, later becoming Payne & Co in 1857. He was granted a patent for musical clocks and for pedometers.The black Roman numerals rubbed especially to the lower half, the movement untested, lacking pendulum, case with minor chips and nibbles to edges and corners and in need of a good clean and polish. The case has been rebonded at some point. Case back bloomed.

The break arch top case surmounted with a gilt brass figure of Mercury flanked by a pair of finials, the canted corners with caryatid floral mounts, heavy cast brass and bevelled glass door, silk lined Rococo brass side panels, pierced grill rear door and plinth base with presentation plaque upon inward scrolling feet, 55cm highDial good. Chapter ring and subsidiary dials with some rubbing/tarnishing, the same to the matted centre. Movement fairly clean but not tested or guaranteed, with pendulum. Case generally good, would benefit from a clean and polish. Brass mounts tarnished. One side fret loose
