CIRCLE OF BENEDETTO BOSCHETTI (ACTIVE C.1830), A LARGE TAZZA IN SIENA MARBLE ROME, 19TH CENTURY The square dish with egg and dart rim, the corners with swans, the moulded frieze with Vitruvian scroll band, the dished, fluted centre with reeded circular boss, the conforming elongated spreading socle with square platform, on a stepped rectangular Nero Belgio plinth 46cm high, top 44cm by 45cmProvenance: Property from the Kingshott CollectionBenedetto Boschetti, 74 Via Condotti, Rome, active c.1820-1870, exhibited at the Crystal Palace Exhibition 1851. The Boschetti workshop was renowned for the exceptional quality of its copies, mostly in marble of Antique vases and objects, for example a rosso antico reduction of the Warwick vase in the Toledo Museum, Ohio (A. Gonzalez-Palacios, Il Tempo del Gusto, Roma e il Regno delle Duo Sicilie, Milan, 1984, Vol II, fig.286). F.S. Bonfigli noted in 1856 that 'The Establishment is particularly conspicuous for its great variety of marble works, bronzes, etc.' (A. Gonzalez-Palacios, The Art of Mosaics, 1982, p.166). A design for a related pedestal-supported tazze, in the 'Antique' manner features in V.B. TWO GIALLO ANTICO MODELS OF THE TEMPLES OF VESPASIAN AND CASTOR AND POLLUX ROME, 19TH CENTURY Of conventional form, set on varying variegated black marble plinths 49cm high, 15cm wide and 50cm high, 24.5cm wide and respectively Provenance: Property from the Kingshott CollectionMarble renditions of Roman monuments were popular souvenirs for Grand Tourists visiting the Eternal City during the later 18th and 19th centuries, and both temples represented by the present models were much-visited stops at the Forum Romanum. The Temple of Castor and Pollux, or Tempio dei Dioscuri, was erected in 495 century BC to commemorate the victory in the Battle of Lake Regillus. The temple was dedicated to Castor and Pollux, the twin sons of Zeus and Leda, as legend had it they fought on the side of the Romans during this battle. The iconic columns however are from a much later date, as the temple was rebuilt after a fire and dedicated by Emperor Tiberius in 6 AD. The Temple of Vespasian was built by the late Emperor's son Titus several decades later, in 79 AD.Both temples sustained significant damage including during the middle ages, and their ruinous nature likely appealed to the romantic imagination of foreign tourists. AFTER JEAN LOUIS GREGOIRE (FRENCH, 1840-1890), A LARGE BRONZE GROUP 'PERSEUS FREEING ANDROMEDA' LATE 19TH CENTURY Signed to the cast and dated 1870, on bronze mounted hardstone revolving base 104cm high including stepped baseCondition Report: Provenance; private collection Yorkshire. The bronzes from this collection have largely been left untouched for at least 10 years and have therefore acquired heavy coatings of atmosphere dust and dirt. Where possible the topmost layers of this have been removed using vacuum and soft brushes but we have elected to take this no further allowing potential purchasers to determine the levels of cleaning they require in accordance with their own taste.The layers of grime/dirt do make it difficult to state the exact nature of the original surface with rubbed sections obscured. We would strongly recommend interested parties inspect them in person or send advisors to carry out first hand examination for them.Overall- heavy surface dirt notably to recesses and crevices- would appear to have had rubbing from cleaning and handling to exposed limbs. One feather to right hand boot slightly damaged. Base very dirty and with paint splashes. It does revolve well on the base though.. Some nibbles to corners of white marble plinth which is discoloured. Donato Barcaglia (1849-1930)Marble sculpture of a young girl with her hand raised, on a circular plinth, inscr. D Barcaglia to the base, 94cm highNote:- the sculpture was purchased by the vendor's family circa 1950 in Southport at auction. The well-carved figure originally held a butterfly and is looking up towards it.Some fingers are missing, as is the original butterfly. There are further losses to the flower heads and garland, and some further wear to the edges. Some of the this may be just the chisel head marks. The patina appears to be original.

A TERRACOTTA FIGURE OF NANDI, MAJAPAHITEast Java, 13th-15th century. The divine bull standing foursquare on a rectangular plinth in an alert posture with the head raised and tail swept to one side. Nandi has a rope and collar around the neck as well as a foliate design on the forehead which is repeated to the sides of the base.Provenance: Collection of Anacleto Spazzapan, acquired in Java between 1970 and 1980. Anacleto Spazzapan (born 1943) is an Italian archaeologist who after retiring in his later years became a successful and popular furniture designer. An important Italian private collection, acquired from the above.Condition: The figure was excavated in fragments which have been reassembled almost completely, showing old fills and with some minor losses remaining. Further with old wear, chips and nicks.Scientific Analysis Report: A thermoluminescence sample analysis has been conducted by Arcadia, Tecnologie Per I Beni Culturali, Milan, dated 21 April 1999, reference no. A WOOD FIGURE OF A MALE ANCESTOR (ADU ZATUA)Indonesia, Nias Island, early 20th century. Carved as a nude male figure squatting atop a plinth and grasping two small props, with prominent nipples, erect genitals and wearing a necklace as well as an elaborate headdress. The sketched face is characterized by a stylized beard, broad nose, and mouth ornaments.Adu Zatua figures were made to honor deceased family members, the Nias people believed that the spirit of their ancestors remained inside the wooden sculpture and allowed for communication between the human and supernatural worlds. Condition: Very good condition with expected surface wear and minor scratches. A Parian ware figural group entitled "Cupid Betrayed", late 19th century, modelled as Cupid sat upon the lap of his mother Venus drinking from a goblet, unmarked, titled to plinth, height 43.5cmCR; The piece shows a moulding fault to the neck. This appears closed from the exterior, but open from the interior. There is a visible seam line around the shoulder of the left arm, and a less visible one down the back of the right arm. There are build-ups of dirt in many of the moulding crevices, and some marking to the side of the base, and further pin head marks around the piece.

A George III honey oak and mahogany cross banded dresser base, the rectangular top with a moulded edge above an arrangement of eight drawers and a pair of fielded panelled cupboard doors, applied with later brass swing handles, and flanked by quarter reeded columns, raised upon a plinth base with integrated bracket feet, 91cm (back)/83cm H x 207cm W x 55cm DCondition reportExtensive fading to the dresser top with light marks and scratches, slight warp to the front board which causes a joint gap running across the top, 6cm loss of cross banding to the top RH rear corner.Small loss of beading to centre drawer and RH middle drawer, small drawers within cupboard feel 'tight' when opened.Cupboard doors have a later lock, rear feet have been restored/repaired, possible further faults/repairs to the underside.Overall the dresser appears to be in good solid condition with some minor faults and repairs.

A George IV rosewood open bookcase, the three quarter galleried top shelf above three further open shelves and a plinth base, united by slender baluster ring turned supports, 111cm H x 104cm W x 24cm DCondition reportMinor separation in back panel, very minor warping to the three shelves along with very minor hairline split to one shelf, extensive play in the shelf joints, general light marks, stains and scuffs commensurate with age.
