A George III oak and mahogany crossbanded longcase clock, the arched enamel dial inscribed Cotterill, Wirksworth, Arabic numerals, painted to the arch with a bird amongst flowers, further flowers to spandrels, date aperture, 30-hour movement striking on a bell, the hood with swan neck pediment, Doric columns, arched rectangular trunk door flanked by canted angles, inlaid to the centre with an oval shell patera, conforming base, shaped plinth, 220cm high, c. 1805 John Cotterill is one of a prolific dynasty of Derbyshire clock makers, and records show that he signed dials wth his surname only c. 1805 -08
