A figured mahogany longcase clock with moonphase, circa 1830, the four-pillar rack and bell striking movement with 12 inch white Arabic numeral break-arch dial with subsidiary seconds dial, arched calendar aperture and signed “Hill, Bristol” to centre, with rose painted spandrels and rolling moonphase to arch, the arched-top case with scallop shell and rosette carved fluted frieze over wavy edge door and fluted Corinthian pilasters to hood, over short flame figured trunk door flanked by quarter columns, on conforming plinth base with bracket feet, 215cm high. Probably William Hill who is recorded in Moore, A J “The Clockmakers of Bristol 1650-1900” as working from St Augustine”s Back 1848-65
