Ian Homer Walters (British 1930-2006) - plaster work maquette for the sculpture Memorial to the International Brigade (Spanish Civil War), sited in Jubilee Gardens, South Bank, London and unveiled on 5th October 1985; with original pencil working markings and raised on a stepped plinth base, 67 cm total height approx (Ian Homer Walters was a socialist and sculptor who taught at Guildford School of Art and whose works include a head of Nelson Mandela outside the Royal Festival Hall and a sculpture of Harold Wilson). He worked with a number of prominent Victorian furniture manufacturers and designers, including Gillows and J. P. Seddon. Together with William Burges and Bruce Talbert, Chalres Bevan was a forerunner of the Gothic Revival movement of the 19th Century. The dot inlay as seen on this piece, is a particular feature of his designs.
